Default programming key fob

Just got a key fob on ebay. following the instructions step 6 says Press Options button until FOB Training is displayed. I have been thru the first 5 steps and i can;t get FOB Training to appear. I bought this car a few months ago and never got a fob with it. I guess my question is did all the 2000 vettes come with remote unlock or did some not have it. I may have just wasted my money buying this fob. If they all came with it I guess i'm stupid.

any suggestions?

thanks

I thought they all came with remote entry, but what do I know...

This is what you're doing, and you're only turning the ignition to the on position - not starting the car?

Matching Transmitter(s) To Your Vehicle
(NOTE: You can perform the matching procedure on your own and do not need to go to a dealer to have this done.)

Each remote keyless entry transmitter is coded to prevent another transmitter from unlocking your vehicle. If a transmitter is lost or stolen, a replacement can be purchased through your dealer. Remember to bring any remaining transmitters with you when you go to your dealer. When the dealer matches the replacement transmitter to your vehicle, any remaining transmitters must also be matched. Once your dealer has coded the new transmitter, the lost transmitter will not unlock your vehicle. Each vehicle can have only three transmitters matched to it. To match transmitters to your vehicle:

1. Turn the ignition key to ON.

2. Clear any warning messages on the Driver Information Center (DIC) by pressing the RESET button.

3. Press the OPTIONS button on the DIC several times until the blank page is displayed, then press and hold the RESET button for two seconds.

4. When the message FOB TRAINING is displayed, push the RESET button once. The message HOLD LK + UNLK 1ST FOB in the DIC will be displayed.

5. Press and hold the LOCK and UNLOCK buttons on the transmitter simultaneously for 15 seconds.

6. When a transmitter is learned (matched), the DIC will display FOB LEARNED and then prompt you to learn the next transmitter.

7. Repeat Steps 5 and 6 for each additional transmitter.

8. Remove the key from the ignition.

The programming mode will shut off if:

You don’t program any transmitters for two minutes.

You take the key out of the ignition.

You have programmed three transmitters.

I looked up the resync instructions in an owners manual for the 2000 and those listed in the post above are indeed the correct steps.
When I put a new battery in my C5 I think I just turned on the ignition and stood next to the car and held the lock & unlock buttons on the remote to reprogram it. The horn beeped and I was done.I don't remember having to do the DIC training thing but it's been a few years.

What you're doing is re-syncing a FOB that has already been 'learned' by the car. The OP has a new FOB which has never been trained.

My initial guess would be dead FOB battery, or dead FOB. Do you know someone close by that has the same FOB - you could try their's to prove that theory

To try just the fob, my local Advance has a device in the battery section where you hold the fob close to it and if the lights come on you know your battery is good and which button may not be working. The hatch button in my fob doesn't work but the lock and un-lock controls are fine. Just trying to help.

Thanks for the quick reply's. My vette is a 1999. I got the key fob from another 1999 that I had on my lot and it worked on that car. Do I need to unprogram the remote or something like that?

When you get to step 5, you need to hold it for a good 10-15 seconds for it to find it. Obviously the other possibility is the fob battery is dead.

I have resurrected this old thread because the same thing is happening to me and I was hoping someone could help with this specific problem.

I have a 1998 convertible and I follow the programming steps, but my DIC will not display FOB training, it stays blank when I press the reset button.

I have the correct remote for a 1998, and I replaced the battery in case that was a problem.

I'm wondering why my DIC will not go to the FOB TRAINING message.

Thanks if you can help

The question you're responding to is from 2009.

To nzstrawman: That's why it's better to start your own new thread, to get answers that pertain to your car and your issue.
Do you have tire pressure monitors, and if so, are they working? Both the keyless entry and the tire pressure monitors use the same rfa receiver.
This is also a teachable moment for those who pose questions and then never come back to say what resolved their question. If the original post from 2009 had been resolved and answered in the thread, you may have already fixed your problem. But, alas, many never return to let us know the final resolution.

I just read an old thread that stated that some of the export C5's did not come with tpms or keyless entry and for that reason "train fobs" won't come up on the display. It also said it could be programmed into the BCM and receiver added, but I can't say.

Default Help...key fob reprogramming

I am trying to reprogram my two key fobs... C6 2009...I have followed the directions posted by some great fellow forum members.
IO get all the way to insert FOB #1 into the slot in glove box and then nothing happens. It says that it should take 3 seconds...beep and then I can insert FOB #2. But after trying three times ( 30 mins. of waiting each time ) the DIC simply stays at "Ready for FOB #1"

ANY help wold be appreciated! ASAP...

Thanks!

Yes. I followed the instructions to include pressing the reset button once after the FOB training message appears. It just never moves past the FOB training message. The HOLD LK + UNLK doesn't appear.
