I have not posted here in a few years but I have a question about my car. I put about 1000 miles per year on my car, now. How often do you think I need to change out the "MOBIL 1"? Once per year sounds wasteful to me, but that is what I have been doing. I have about 47000 miles on the car. Thanks for your input!

I doubt that you really need to change once per year if you're only driving 1000 miles per year--------at least if those 1000 miles aren't all short trips.

Why don't you do an oil analysis the next time you change and see what the lab says. Then you'll know if you need to or not in the future.

I know at 1000 miles/year it hurts, but I'd stick with once/year.

Once a year or every 10,000 miles, whichever ever is first.

I would have to agree that at least once a year and maybe two times a year.

Depending if you step up your usage of the Vette

Thanks,Matt

It's not the oil that wears out after a year, it's the contaminates from condensation, fuel residue, and debris that accumulate from lack of use. Thus, GM recommended annual Mobil 1 and filter changes. Oil is cheap -- engines are expensive -- follow your owners manual and enjoy!

I change my oil and filter every spring and fall. I only drive it about 3000 miles a year. I'm just **** that way about my favorite ride....

Owners manual recommends once a year if you don't drive it enough to do a normal mileage based oil change. That's what I would do.

Thanks forum members for your responses. I'll just keep doing what I've been doing, once a year or like the one post says "Drive it MORE!"
