Clear Coating
I have questions for those who are DIY people. I have painted my
FRC's and Fan Cover, Fuse Relay Cover, Torch Red. What is ment to place a "wet coat" when you spray clear coat for a final coat? Also, do you need to sand them with 1800 grit sand paper after each coat dries, or only sand the clear coat after the final coat is sprayed then buff after 3 to 4 days after they have time to cure?
When I spraypainted (with duplicolor cans) my front license plate filler I did the color first in 2 coats waiting 15 minutes between. I let that dry 2 hours then applied 3 coats of clear with 15 minutes between coats. The next day I wetsanded and buffed it. It turned out perfect, like glass.
A wetcoat is a full coverage coat of paint, as opposed to a tack coat that just barely makes the surface tacky. Always start with a tack coat, and end with a wetcoat.
Only wetsand after the final coat. 1500 grit works fine.
