Any opinions about the new 'Castrol Edge' synthetic motor oil advertising. They say it's 8 times better that Mobil 1 synthetic. How can they make that claim? I looked at their website but I don't see anything other than their own tests to determined it's quality?
Guess you folks have not heard of the problems with Mobil-1. Apparently the 5-30 weight does not meet the SM classification. Seems ExxonMobil has been cutting corners and has been caught. I am in the process of returning all of my Mobil-1 stash-about 80 quarts going back to WalMart

I'm using Castrol Synthetic because Royal Purple was out of stock. With Castrol Syn it runs fine. But I notice when I use Royal Purple (which I been using for a long time) my engine temperature is a good 5-10 degrees lower. Maybe it's me or maybe it's the oil
One more time: When you cut to all the bull crap, personal opinions and the wailing and head bashing that this oil is better than that oil, the bottom line is..................... EARL IS EARL!!!
Your Vette will be happy no matter what it is fed. As long as it is kept full and meets the requirements set forth by GM. And folks, they all do. One molecule here and a few ions there really doesn't matter all that much.
I was going to start a thread about this new Castrol oil, but my thread was just going to point out how expensive it is, even at Wally World LOL!! I notice the bottle says that it's a fully synthetic oil, was Syntech not fully synthetic?

Who is Bob, and why is Mobil 1 now junk? The GM website doesn't say anything about bad oil and their still filling Vettes with mobil 1? People here have logged over 150K miles using Mobil 1 and their engines seem to be fine?

HONEST!!!!!!! Can I get an Amen!
AMEN!
When will people realize that the oil companies are in bed with the car companies? GM - once the largest car company and Exxon/Mobil - the largest oil company - are partnering their products. Who would have thought ?$?$?
I'm always amazed and amused when people say, "GM uses Mobil 1 so therefore its the best oil for my vette!"...For daily driving - they all good. For road course activities where the engine is stressed - there are much better oil products out there.
Exxon/Mobil can easily extend significant discounts to domestic and foreign car manufacturers to place their products in their vehicles, and market them to NASCAR, etc. Marketing is good business. Its a fine oil, just not outstanding based on other options in the market place. Significant quantities of a product does not always translate to exceptional quality.
The Corvette is a sports car of compromises, e.g, interior plastic, etc. since its trying to meet a specific price point in the market. How many OEM parts have we complained about or replaced with aftermarket? The Mobil 1 oil used is just another compromise - good enough for the masses for how its commonly driven by a majority of its owners. Pick a good quality oil and stick with it.
