Answer to question 1: I puchased the LS1 label from Ecklers. In fact they are on sale today. I replaced the 3m double sided tape with velcro. I did not like the 3m tape that came with the label.
Answer to question 2: These were the original FRC's and when I primed them I painted over the orignal Red Corvette lettering. There were no stripes on the FRC's. I puchased as set of lettering, with strips from Chip at CCA. The set I bought from Chip were complete and there were some addtional lettering included in the event you screwed up. When I placed the lettering into the void I was very careful in making sure there were no bubbles. This may sound funny but in the coners and along the edges of the lettering I used a toothpick to make sure they make contact to the FRc's.
To the second part of your question: I sanded, them till they were smooth. Placed several coats of primer and sanded more. After the spraying the primer on I allowed an hour to dry then wet sanded more. I used 400, 600, 800 grit paper until they were as smooth as a baby's butt. Allowed them to dry over night then sprayed the base coat onto the FRC's. Then I wet sanded them again until I acheived the finish I wanted. I placed the lettering and stripes on prior to clear coating them. It gives the appearance that they were not an after thought.

ok, very nice.
I did this to my 5.7 FRC's and the body of them turned out very nice, but the letters and little groves got all screwy. I plan on trying this again on my LS3 covers.
Bought the sandable primer, clear coat and sandpaper from Auto Zone. I ordered the paint from Auto Touch Up in torch red. It was a perfect match. Here is their address. http://www.automotivetouchup.com/
Thanks to Chip at CCA, he suggested the lettering and it got here just at the right time. He is really a wonderful person to deal with.
Once I placed the lettering onto the FRC's placed 3 coasts of clear and let them set up for at 24 hours.
I then finished them out with McQuires Scratch-X for a real smooth finish. I will give them a month then put a real nice coat of polish on all of the items.

You have to be patient in placing the letters on. It took me about 2 hours to get the lettering and stripes on. The good thing for me. I had no rug rats or wife around telling I need to do this or that.
As an addtional suggestion, buy an extractor knife (not sure of the spelling). The stripes are a little long. This is a good thing, since you can remove the excess with the knife. You can pick one up at any hobby store.

Thanks for the tip on the LS1 plate from ELCKER'S just added it to my order.
Very nicey! Do you think it is necessary to prime them 1st. I was just gonna clean then lightly sand them then paint them with red automotive hi-heat paint.

looks great , I have been complementing doing this same thing. I bought 3 cans of paint coded to match about a month ago. I was wondering if you could post what you used for Primer. The 800, 600 and 400 grit paper is just the stuff I would buy from Napa?
