Default Cool air induction

Regarding cool air induction systems. I have a 1999 with about 27K. You people have advised me to get a tune up, which I intend to do. However, I have a question regarding the benefits to a CAI system. It seems like a cheap way to get closer to my RWHP goal gain of 400 hp. Is a CAI system a good thing, If so, how much of a good thing. Thanks

A CAI system and a tune will help you pick up some power, and is an important component in the list of mods to get you to 400 RWHP. I would go with the Vararam Intake hands down, best CAI system out there with proven results.
Lots of factors depend on just how much you will pick up, depends on other supporting mods, and who tunes your car.

Also, just to clarify, a "tune up" meaning change plugs, wires, clean fuel injections sytem is one thing... but then there is a "dyno tune" which changes the parameters of the stock tune that is in your PCM. Not sure which you meant.

engine is an air pump. The more air you can get into it, and the more spend exhaust you can get out of it, the more power it makes.

You might want to look at this:

The bottom line is that you WILL gain a nice chunck of HP with an aftermarket intake. To retain all that you gain, just make sure it is fed with outside air.
