I've seen a lot of HID kits for the C5 and most of them are expensive. If I'm looking for a 8500k version for the 9006 stock bulbs WHY SHOULD I NOT buy a cheap $200 conversion kit? I have a lot of friends who have put a cheap conversion kit in their respective GM vehicles (05 Vibe, 04 G/Prix. 98 G/Prix etc...) and have been blown away by them.
My question is would this be a bad idea for my C5 and if so, why should I stay away?

I carry 8000k and 6000k. I never heard of 8500k. IMO it would not be a good temp for driving. Stick to 6000k. My kits are $80 and $95. I wouldn't pay $200.

if you're putting a HID kit in your car to see better at night, then get a 6000k kit or better yet 4300k (4300K is the brightest).
if you're putting a HID kit in your car just to have "cool looking purple lights" like your ricer friends, then get 8000k or higher, you wont see very well, but you'll look COOL doing it!
I agree, I would go with the 6000K. Like said above, you can get complete plug and play kits for $60.
Thanks to you and RPOZ4Z I'm thinking of going with the 6000ks instead. I definately don't want the "ricer" look and do appreciately the fact that the 6000s put out more lumins.
But why are guys spending $1000 for HID kits if these cheaper ones work fine?

^^Because what you are buying is not a true HID set-up. You are not getting HID projector housings which better focus the light. That said these are a significant improvement over the stock set-up.

Be very careful if you buy those cheap HID kits. I've had lots of customers come to me wanting to replace parts/whole kits because they were so cheap and couldn't get any help when they had a problem. When you buy my kit you get the 1 year warranty and full tech support. Just search my name.

I bought a set myself!
Plus, any type of HID setup in stock reflective housing is not DOT compliant as the beam can be too bright for oncoming traffic. FYI in case you don't know why the LEO is pulling you over...
i still have the:
HID low beam 9006 bulbs (6000k)
HID high beam 9005 bulbs (6000k) for sale..
Both are brand new and both are the new style slim ballasts.

How do these compare with the light output of the European lamps (E-Code) with 130/100 watt light output? I finally received my wiring upgrade kit for my e-code lamps but have not done the rewire and installation yet. Also how do they compare to Silverstar bulbs?

I am not sure.... the 2 kits that i have are 35W and are bright as hell.
I had just the silverstar bulbs and they do not even compare (night and day).

A1 person to deal with stands behind what he sells
I have my 8000k hid's for two years with no problems, the only issue was the buckets would not retract, i posted a fix for that which had you do some very basic idiot proof wiring but there is a vendor on here that sells a plug an play resistor that is a must have and very simple install you wont be sorry. Im sure if you ask around someone will tell you his name, Im almost sure he also sells the kits for a good price also you might be able to purchase all from him. Good luck !!!
