OK,,time for the dumb question for the day,,,, Do you remove it to paint it OR just do a major masking job?? Still not that familiar with the C5 structure yet!! I like the look too!!

Remove it! Pretty easy really. I opted not too clear mine as I was worried about glare. I did my wiper arms too;

Beautiful engine bays in this thread - and the painted windshield cowls are a addition.

-where did you get your paint
-brand/type of paint
-did you clear coat/wet sand/etc?

I went the easy way and had a local auto body shop do the paint work. I ordered a used cowl piece from Gene's Karshop (was/is a forum vendor who sells used corvette pieces). This allowed me to leave the part with them and they could get to it when they could and still allowed me to drive mine around. I was also getting my rear spoiler touched up then too.

While working for a parts dealer, I purchased a new cowl and had it painted at a local shop. All I had to do was remove the old cowl and install the new. If you search under "cowl removal" or "udder cleaning" you should find directions for the removal of the cowl. Don't remember what member posted the directions.

Will be doing mine in the next week or so and have a question for everyone who painted their own. Did you use a primer first or just an adhesion promoter before going with the primary color paint? Seems like a primer might clog up that wire mesh area?

Prior to taking the cowl panel in for paint, I removed the metal screen, and the rubber edging that seals up to the windshield I didn't remove, but pried it off the edge of the cowl, masked it, and folded it around the backside of the cowl. (It's not an easy piece to remove/replace completely).

Once painted, I unmasked the rubber seal, and pressed it back in place along the cowl edge, and re-glued the screen back in place.

Thanks, sounds like a good suggestion, that should make things a lot easier!

When I had the cowl painted, the shop asked if I wanted the screen painted or not. I chose to have it painted along with the cowl. I like the look. YMMV.

Actually man, is there any way that you could email that pic of your engine compartment.

I think that I'm gonna pull some parts off and give my paint guy that picture and tell him "I want it to look like this". lol

Thanks so much!
