Flowmasters a good choice?
Had a co-worker meet me with his Vette with some fancy, huge-tipped system....borla's maybe, not sure, maybe not, but mine were slightly louder and he liked the sound better when we started them up.
So, many overlook Flowmasters here, but I like mine.
Also, I didn't mean to sound like a flowmaster snob. I had plenty of them in the 80's and 90's. My tastes have changed.
Where are you located? I didn't see it in your profile.

I was thinking about just installing some cut-outs next to the back, to bypass the mufflers. Would that sound just as good? That way I can be quiet sometimes and loud when the girlfriend is away.....lol
I took the mufflers off a couple of days ago (unbolted in front of the back wheel) to see what it would sound like, but it seems to pop some after you let off the gas. I'd rather not have the popping noise. Would it pop if I put the cut-outs on it?

I like the popping sound combined with a good sounding exhaust

A few things here.
Since you are on a budget, do a search on the A&A mod. It is a cheap way to modify your factory exhaust, and you won't have to do anything but weld a pipe in on both sides. What it does is bypass the muffler from the pipes that go in to one of the pipes that come out on each side. So, essentially you still have some muffler, but you also have another little part doing the bypass thing. I have a set of them already done. I gave my factory exhaust to a friend with a C5, and he did it and put them on his. Sounded great. Made me so mad that I had spent $1100 on my magnaflows and they didn't sound like anything compared to my old factory mufflers on his car with the A&A mod
My car currently has Magnaflows on it at the moment. As far as flowmasters, you have got to understand the difference in sound of a LSX motor compared to a first gen small block or LT1. As someone else mentioned, the firing order is different so they make a completely different sound. I personally am not to crazy about the sound, but I can live with it. Flowmasters sound great on things like older gen small blocks. I have dual flowmasters on my '95 Z-71 and it sounds awesome. But, I have to say, on a LSX motor, I don't think they would sound that great. just my .02
The thing about our cars is that they are so expensive to mod, sometimes you just get burnt out on spending money on them. I know I do. I bought my Magnaflows, and I was hoping that after paying about $1100 for a cat back exhaust I would have a good sound. Not the case. I have been nothing but dissapointed. They look awesome, (you can see them in my pics in my profile) but they don't sound really any better than stock. The car did gain a little power, but the sound is just not there at all. That is why I am getting the cutouts.
Now, If I had headers, High flow cats, an x pipe and then the magnaflows, it might sound pretty good, but since I am running the stock exhaust all the way back to the front of the catback, they didn't help it any with sound.
I'll post up some install pics of my cutouts when I get them in. I also just bought new tires, an air bag switch and some other goodies. I have to have an air bag switch for my daughter.

I've had them on mine for about 2 yrs now.... I think they're better than the slowmasters....
