Default New shocks

Just wondering what front shocks I should replace my leaky stock ones with. I found some Monroe Sensatracs for $80.00 a pair. Are they close to stock? I don't do any autocross or anything like that just wondering for just normal driving and every once in awhile a foot slip if these would be good.

Do you know which suspension package you have? For the 1997-2002 C5 you had the base, Z51, and F45... F45 being the one with adjustable dampers (tour, sport, competition). You suspension option will change what shock you need. In 2003 the F55 replaced the F45 setup with GMs new MSRC (magnetic selective ride control).

That said, you can put any shock in place, but may get a change in handling. Most people on here go w/ Bilsteins or Koni FSDs. You can get Bilstein sports for around $300 last I checked. Another good option is the 2004 Z06 shocks. If you order them from a forum vendor like gmpartshouse you can get a significant savings over a dealer.

You won't find many posts on here about people stuffing in generic aftermarket shocks as most are looking for a performance upgrade.

Personally, I replaced my stock shocks w/ bilsteins at 40,000 miles years back as I was running HPDEs w/ my car. Now that the car is a "cruiser" again and I have a dedicated race car I replaced the bilsteins with Koni FSDs for a more compliant street ride... the FSDs are great.

if your front shocks are leaking , anything you put on is going to be good.
Monroe makes a good shock and it certinly will compare well to the original OEM base shock.

Default Bilsteins

I would not buy anything less than Bilsteins. Bilstein continues to make the best-longest lasting shocks in the world. Think of it this way - they will be the last shocks you ever need to buy.

If I was in your situation I'd by some 04 C5 shocks or c6 shocks or Bilsteins. I don't feel right about putting $40 shocks on my car.

The '04 Z06 shocks or the C6 shocks would be a good choice. Bilsteins are also good for the C5.
