Default seat skins

i haven't seen any but there were some threads on the site stating how difficult it is. I am trying to find someone now to do mine. One guy quoted me $600 to install my covers

Wow that seems pretty high. I'm sure it can't be THAT ungodly hard!

Here you go!

http://www.vetteessentials.com/instr...er_change.html

VERY detailed... I used these myself.

$600 to install two seat skins is INSANE... if you get more estimates you should find some closer to $200.

That's the one I used. It's not too hard to do.

advice...Use new foam. The old stuff won't do justice to your new skins. Use large zip ties instead of hog rings. That alone will make the job much easier. You might also take the time to cover the seat springs with some burlap to keep it from cutting into your new foam seats bottoms.

Take your time and have fun.

I fitted heated seats so I had the stock covers off. Easy to do if you follow the Vette Essentials directions. $600 for the job is just taking the mick

RJ1AZ has it spot on. Using new foam is good advice and the only tough part is the hog rings. I also used zip ties which did the job and are way easier to fit.

Thanks a million guys. I've got the foam and skins in the garage ready to go, hopefully my shocks will be here soon and those and the new sways will complete the winter mods!

Cover the exposed edges of the seat back frame where the side bolsters are and the outer forward frame of the seat bottom. I used vinyl tubing and taped it down.

I installed my VE seat skins a couple years ago. It's not a bad job. One suggestion is put the skins in a pillow case & stick them in the dryer for just a few minutes. It made the leather very supple and easy to slip on the frame.

I have a 99 FRC and I installed my myself. I did not think it was particularly difficult. I took the seats out and then removed all the clips underneath. I even replaced some of the foam. It took a couple of hours.

Absolutly correct, one of the easiest mods I've done myself.
Download the instructions, set 'em on your bench and off you go. The "hardest" part is disconnecting the seat control wireing - just don't snap the little plastic clip[.

Just got Corvette Fever magazine and they had a decent article on changing out seat covers with plenty of pics. It might be worth picking one up to see if it's something you want to tackle or leave to the pros.

When I bought my Vette Essentials seat skins, a local upholstery shop did the swap for a total of $100 - I took the seats out of the car and delivered them to the upholsterer.

Another item...you'll note in the VE writeup Ken King (rest his soul) says to use needle nose pliers to pull the zippers. That is not safe for your leather as a novice. Use those plastic ties that come with garbage bags...the longer the better, to pull the impossible zipper...every install has at least one.
