There are oils better than Mobile 1 but if they cost more why would you pay the extra expense when there are members that have gotten over 200,000 miles on these engines using mobile one. And just this week there was a post by a member that just flipped over 300,000 miles and all he uses is mobile one.
IMO just use the cheapest oil that meets GM4718M, most of the time that is Mobile 1 but if its not, just go with the cheapest.

I already bought some Castrol Edge for my next oil change. It looks like a good oil by it's analysis and is cheaper and more locally available than Amsoil or Redline. Suppose to be 8 times less wear than Mobil 1, and that is by an engine teardown test (not some funky "ball bearing test").
I'm starting to show some wear (lead) in my used oil analysis (118,000 miles) and thought I would try this. An oil analysis afterwards should prove out if it's claim is true.

This is one of the most hotly contested and most discussed questions on this forum - as long as the oil meets the GM4718M standard, it will be okay to use it.
Mobil 1 is the factory fill for the Corvette, true enough - that doesn't mean that it's best. Mobil Oil spent a fortune with GM to get them to use it as a factory fill. There are many high quality synthetics available - pick one, use 5W-30 per Chevrolet recommendations, and go with it.
I've been saying for a while Mobil-1 is not all it is cracked up to be. Reason? virtually every used oil analysis of Mobil-1 shows high iron levels in the oil. Now, after years we may have the answer. Mobil-1 in 5-30 grade does not even meet the basic SM specification. I am in the process of returning all of my Mobil-1 to WalMart

I have said all along that there are better oils than Mobile 1 but why would you care if Mobile 1 meets some spec other than the one that the company that warranties the engine requires. Mobile 1 has been proven by forum members to be good enough to get 200,000 to 300,000 miles and it meets GM spec GM4718M to satisfy warranty requirements.
Used Mobile 1 in the past,,wix filters,,now been using Valvoline full synthetic. IMO ANY good brand name 5W30 full synthetic should do. I do drive it very regularly,,so I run the OLM down low in a pretty short time so it is not in there for more than 3 to 4 months or so. Had it for a little over a year,,had it changed when I got it( Watched them do it) and just changed it for the second time since! Drive it and take care of it,,and IMO it will hold up better than letting them sit. Often wonder if the fuel gauge problem isn't helped along by so many cars sitting a lot with the float sitting still for so long letting deposits form on the rest of the system. Mine is up and down on a REAL regular basis,, with a regular fresh supply of quality gas (and periodic dose of techron)!! I don't expect to have that problem.(COULD happen, but I would be surprised)!!

The Mobil 1 of the past was the oil used for most of those oil changes, that doesn't mean that the future performance of the current formula of Mobil 1 will be the same though. Mobil 1's formula has changed many times over the years.
