I have been researching shifters for my 01 Vert. I finally decided that the MGW looked like a good choice so I called MGW to order one. There was an AD in the March 09 issue of Corvette Fever advertising the MGW for $199.00. There is also an article covering the install of an MGW in a C6.
I told the lady at MGW that I wanted to order the shifter advertised for $199. She transferred me to a tech and He told me that the price was $250.00! I reminded Him off the AD and He said that the AD was placed months in advance and they could not change it. They had modified the shifter in January and raised the price. Needless to say I declined to place an order. If it was modified in January and the price was raised, they should have had time to change the AD in a magazine distributed in February.
Thats what happens when a product starts to sell. They see buyer's are interested, so all of a sudden at a moments notice, they jack up their price. All in the name of supply and demand. Myself of course, think they should have honored the add. Why not go w/ the c/6 Z06 shifter? From what I've seen hear on the forum, member's praise it alot. Another good thing is, you would be getting a good price from Gene Culley(vendor here on the forum), and plus you would be sticking to a pure GM product. Good luck in your decission.
Just a thought, but why don't you shorten the one you have. I did that last year and I am quite satisfied. You can do it 2 ways. Just remove the ****, cut an inch or so off and thread it further down the shaft. The other is to remove the shifter and shorten the handle from the bottom. With this one, you remove the large rubber bushing that makes the C5 shifter so sloppy. You end up with shorter crisper shifts for a total of $0. Nuthin to lose.
Do a search for MGW shifters -- the vendor explained the price change at length recently - it is for an improved version of the shifter and he did sell the remaining old style at the $199. I'm just saving a few $$ and will order one soon - Many great reports on the MGW on this forum.

AS the op stated, MGW advertised their shifer in the (MAR 09) Corvette Fever for $199.oo Can't get much fresh off the press than that. They won't even honor their own ad price , what eles might they not honnor? No way would I purchase their product after a sales stunt like that. I wonder if they stated in their add that they were selling an inferior product for $199. and they were coming out w/ a new and improved model for $250? A 25% price increase!
Is the C6Z06 shifter just as easy to install as the others, or are there modifications required?
Pretty easy really... unlike the aftermarket shifters the Z shifter is an entire assembly. Simply unbolt the stock unit and put the new one in. Don't forget to unlock the neutral lock. Also, when I did mine I did not get the bolt that ties to the shifter shaft that goes back to the trans tight enough. Had to take the console back off and give it a little more torque.
Also, do a search on modifying your stock boot. No need to purchase a new one. Works like a champ.

I bought my 30% MGW the end of Jan. for $199 (+ $40 for the satin ****). First, it's an awesome shifter...quality is top notch! I emailed MGW about the new shifter and here's what George (MGW VP) told me when I asked about the new shifter:
"...but the new version is only really changed for issues relating to the z06 and 2008-2009 c6 cars. it will be quite a bit more expensive so the current shifter should still work fine on your car for less money"
I have an 04 coupe so I opted for the previous version.

I was not offered another shifter! Only the $250.00 one. I can't believe they could not change the AD price.
