I jacked up my car level, started the engine. Went through all the gears and left the motor running while in park. Took out the plug and began to pump transmission fluid in my tranny. It wouldn't take any at all.
I know its low, it has to be. I've had the radiator out a couple of times, leaked a little fluid out and the transmission has a small leak. What am I doing wrong? The transmission runs at normal temp, could it have been overfilled before and its just the right level now? This is the first time I've tryed to fill the trans.
If the fluid comes out of the drain hole while the engine is running then it's full. Unless your tranny is making noise, I wouldn't worry about it.
Good luck, I know it can get a little nerve racking when you don't have a dip stick to depend on!

It is nerve racking and the stealership wants a fortune to check it, then they try to charge you for something you don't want.
Check this thread out. I think it, and the links it has will answer your question. I didn't read it all, but from what I can tell the add plug may be the same plug as the drain plug. in other words there isn't a dedicated drain and fill plug, only one for both. Read it close though, because I may be wrong. Hope this gets you fixed up man
thanks so much guys, I'll check it when I get home, who would have guessed the fill plug would be on the bottom of the pan.
Got another question. My rear-end leaks just a little. How can you check the level and if its a little low, what type of fluid should I use?
I've went to every auto parts store around here and all they have is valvoline and mobil 1 synthetic, and some other fluid thats not synthetic. Can't find redline. To just fill it up a little, should I just get the mobile 1 and some additive or would the thicker stuff be better to mix into the rear?
I'm not having any noise while driving, but I don't know how longs its been leaking, I've only had it for a couple of months. Just want to check the level.

open the fill hole and stick your pinkie in it, should get wet from the oil at or just below the fill opening. i would just replace it since your there, i used amsoil since it already had the friction modifier in it.

Rearend is not hard either. Be careful because I think if I remember correctly you need to have limited slip additive in with regular gear oil. you can get this stuff at the dealership, and prolly some other places. Beware that that stuff stinks bad, and if you get it on your hands you will not be able to get rid of the smell for a while...
I did both of my trans and rearend at the same time. I used royal purple, but I'm sure redline will be fine too. Remember that once you change it, to drive to a big open parking lot or field..and do a series of figure 8"s with the car. This will distribute the new fluid throught the limited slip clutches. Very important.
Where is the rear leaking from? Is it where one of the axles goes in?
