Default Fluids Fluids Fluids

My car is getting old. So i'll be doing a full fluid change this upcomming oil change.

What do you guys like?

Coolant - Prestone 50/50
Transmission - Royal Purple Max ATF
Differential - Royal Pural Synthehic Gear Oil
Engine Oil - Mobile
Filter - Mobile
Hydrolic Clutch Fluid - Prestone DOT 3

Then to add to the mix

4 BFGoodrich g-Force Sport

YAY or NAY? On my choices?

If theres something better i should be getting, a couple pennies is nothing. Breakfluid will be done when breaks will be dieing but so far so good. Any fluid i missed?

I think I'd use a DOT 4 like ATE Type 200 for the clutch and the brakes. And, since you're in a fluid changing mood, why not change out the power steering fluid too?

Do I understand correctly that brake fluid and hydraulic clutch fluid are not exactly the same thing???

Actually you do use the same fluid for both. I use Valvoline Synthetic Dot3/4.

Coolant - Prestone 50/50 + Watter Wetter
Transmission - Royal Purple Max ATF I've heard from a national builder that this eats carbon components, so I went with Mobil ATF
Differential - Royal Pural Synthehic Gear Oil I run RP 75W-90 I think
Engine Oil - Mobile Mobile 5W-30, RP, Amsoil, or Redline
Filter - Mobile AC Delco, Wix, Napa Gold, Mobile
Hydraulic Clutch Fluid - Prestone DOT 3 same + Ranger method

Engine Oil - Mobile I guess all oil is mobile, but Mobil 1 is good. There are plenty of other oils, including Valvoline synthetic, that now meet the Corvette spec. and claim to actually reduce wear more than Mobil 1.
Filter - Mobile I used to use AC Delco, but now I use WIX in all my cars.
Hydrolic Clutch Fluid - Prestone DOT 3 I use the GM clutch fluid since the reservoir only holds a couple of ounces.
Even if you do not flush the brake system, I would go ahead and change the fluid in the reservoir. I just use the Prestone DOT 3 fluid from Walmart.

The GM clutch fluid is supposed to have additional friction reducing additives, but you can just use brake fluid. I use the GM fluid since the reservoir only holds about 2 ounces.

Some guy recently posted that he changed the power steering fluid in his reservoir and it the power steering quit working. I still cannot imagine what he could have done to cause that. At first he thought that the wrong P/S fluid was used, but I don't think Corvettes use anything special.

P/S is synthetic on the C4's so I would think they would still require syn on C5's
Engine Oil= any synthetic meeting the GM 4718M specificiation is fine. The last oil I would use is Mobil-1-it has been producing high iron (wear) numbers in used oil analysis

They are not on the GM High Performance Approved Engine Oil List

So changing my list

Coolant - Prestone+Water 50/50 mix
Transmission - ?? IDK
Differential - Royal Pural Synthetic Gear Oil
Engine Oil - Castrol SLX Professional
Filter - Mobile or AC Delco?
Hydrolic Clutch Fluid - Prestone DOT 4

Is everything good? Meets specifications?

I assume you are using Prestone's version of DexCool. However, use the non mixed antifreeze and mix it yourself. When you drain the old coolant there will always be several quarts remaining in the engine block. I usually drain/refill/drain several times with clear drinking water (GM recommendation) from the hose until the drained fluid runs clear. Then I add the appropriate amount of antifreeze to get the 50/50 mix. If you add a 50/50 mix to the clear water that is in the block you end up with ~ 60+/40- mix of water to antifreeze. That changes your boiling and freezing points. If you want to use the water wetter and can stand a higher freezing point then increase the percentage of water to antifreeze to something like 75/25 as water wetter works better with lower concentrations of antifreeze. It works best with straight water. At the 50/50 mixture level water wetter has a barely noticeable affect.

Get the AMSoil ATD (which is newer than ATF) for transmission, i use Amsoil iATF n M12 tranny and ATD was no available at that time.

Good point by Bill for coolant.
