Im getting some new rims and tires for the 04',, and also new tps's,the sensors,,, i was just gonna have the tire shop mount to rim and balance only as i have a lift to take the old ones off the put the new ones on,,, however someone said that the tire shop needs the car in order to activate the tps's to the cars computer,, is that true?? thanks rj
Yes the wheel with the TPS must be mounted on the car to be programmed. To program the TPS there is a procedure you must follow using the DIC and a magnet. The TPS when activated by a magnet sends a signal to a receiver mounted on the car. You have to do this for each wheel. So the answer is yes.
Just program them yourself. Once you get all 4 new wheels and tires mounted use this procedure to train them yourself its easy all you need is a magnet. Or you can buy the GM tool for about $30 (its just a magnet with a hole in it) https://www.corvetteforum.com/techti...D=77&TopicID=1

If you are having the tire shop train them, then YES, they need the car. I would have them mount/balance/install the TPS, them mount them and train the sensors yourself. You just need a strong magnet to do it. It's done through the DIC. Easy.
wow,, that easy huh,,, but one more question,, what does one do with the magnet,, i ***/u/me that you hold it to the outer edge of the rim near the air value for calibration?,, thanks guys, rj

Yes just hold it up to the sensor until you hear the horn honk, or in the case of the GM tool (magnet with a hole in it) just slide it over the TPS.
