I sold my 1998 Corvette (A4) on Monday and purchased a 2002 M3 (SMG) on Wednesday.
Overall impressions:
The M3 is:
faster than the C5
interior is sexy and top quality, not crap like the C5.. the leather, the dash, the whole 9 yards..
the ride quality is almost the same (bumpiness and stiffness) compared to the C5
handling (cornering) is tighter than the C5
seats are way more comfortable than the C5 (I even had sport seats in the vette)
looks wise, its not comparing apples to apples. I like the looks of both, but for different reason. However, M3 looks "newer"
the harmon/kardon stereo sounds so much better than the Blowse in the C5
the exhaust on the C5 sounded better (although I did have B&B, never heard it stock)
MPG is about the same (@ 80mph my tach is at 3000rpm)
my M3 is stock...
333hp/262 lb torque
8500rpm redline
with the SMG tranny, it runs to 60mph in 4.5seconds flat consistantly
curb weight is 3415 lbs (C5 vert is 3246)
its been a great 6 months here.. i will buy a C6 once the prices drop under $20k for a 06+

I too have wanted an M3 for some time. However, when it came time to purchase my car, I had to get the vette since I always wanted one. I figured I needed to get it out of my system. 4 years later, still not out.

m3 vs c5
my wife has an m3 w/smg trans (piece of sh** ), we also have 2 c5s
1 zo6 1 conv 6 spd both crush the bmw all around except 4 interior.
so f.r.v. the bmw does not handle as well, no where as fast as conv.
not even in same ballpark as z06. so f.r.v. its really torch red! get a life
and realize you made a mistake by selling the vette. so live with it or man up sell the beamer junk and get a c6. I also have 07 z06 vveerryy bad car!!!!! you will like the c6. ps I dont drive the bmw its wifeys.

yea i know, never owned a car for over a year...
its silver, not grey.. not the best color, i will agree, but if i told you what i paid for it, it wouldnt matter anymore
uhh no, i had a stock C5, no engine mods just an exhaust.. and 19" wheels.. so, its a close match, but the M3 is slightly faster.. my butt really feels the difference

im not sure about the Z (stock), but I had a regular C5, and it is faster than that.
Im only 22, car-crazy, so I get in and out quickly. Once I get older (40+) Im sure Ill stick to something for a while. Right now Im just chillin

haha i love the "hate" (not really hate, but you know what i mean).. i was expecting this.. its all good.. to me the C5 was just another car.. to me, the M3 is just another car.

no regrets selling it either, i had my reasons for not being in love with it.
p.s. im not going to have a fight about which is quicker. check the facts, drive the car.. im comparing STOCK to STOCK, and not even a z06.

I sometimes want to trade in my vette for something faster / more rare like a viper, porsche 911, but I would never go down in looks or speed like a 4 seat m3. But whatever makes you happy.

Hope you enjoy the BMW. We have a BMW daily driver and there is no comparison to the two. The C5 is is better hands down in my opinion. By the way ours is a 2009. That's just my opinion though.
