Nitrogen
I just bought a car and the guy had nitrogen in the tires. While nitrogen does not vary in pressure as much as air, it does vary to some extent. I have had nitrogen in my tires before on a Explorer, and I know from summer to winter they will vary pressure by as much as 5 to 8 pounds.
My question is can I add air to the tires? Or should I just empty them and reinflate with air?

Realizing that air contains 78% nitrogen, 21% oxygen, 1% argon, 0.038% carbon dioxide, and trace amounts of other gases along with about 1% water vapor I'd say adding air to your tires is a safe activity.
