Default Z06 Fog Light Install - Compression Nuts?

Hi Guys,

I have a quick question that I am hoping someone with experience installing fogs on their Z06 can help me with. I have searched the last 30 minutes and found nobody else asking this question. Maybe the answer is right in front of me.

I have all parts ready to go and installed... 3whit harness, factory fogs, factory switch and a 6000k HID 880 series HID kit from jwmotoring. Everything works like a charm, except one thing. I can't figure out a good way to mount the lights in the factory location.

I see a part number for the "compression nut" (GM Part 10281487), but it appears most GM parts sites no longer have this available. If you have installed these, you know there is really no easy way to get a nut on the backside of the frame rail so without this part things are kind of tricky.

I am thinking of taking a 3/8" x 1/4" bolt and using metal epoxy to affix it inside the hex opening on the frame, this would allow me to thread a nut on the end for mounting. I really don't like this idea, but it's all I have come up with so far.

I believe the compression nuts and bolts had to be ordered in packs of 10 from GM. Any chance someone has extra's they are willing to sell me?

Anybody have any other creative idea's that might be available at Home Depot or ACE Hardware?

Thanks!

You need to use those "U" nuts. You can find heavy duty examples at Loews or Home Depot.

"U" nuts don't seem to be available in this size. They would need to be almost 1.5" long.

I ended up finding some fairly heavy duty rubber compression nuts that did the trick. Never could find the "U" nuts in the proper size.

Thanks for the suggestions!

Good to see you found something that worked. I got the bolts and the u-nuts at lowes when i did the fogs on my Z. They have a wide assorment of this kind of stuff in their bins.

Go to my web page:

Go to bottom and click on:
C5 Fog Light Install in a Z06 and HID Install:

You will see what I installed and how. It worked PERFECTLY ! I tried multiple places, but Lowes had the best fitting U nuts. I got bolts to go along with them, and after 2 years they are still tight

Wow Toque. Thanks a ton!

I think my compression nuts will be fine, BUT your post shows me the exact U nuts I need. I will probably go to Lowes and track these down anyway... I think it may be a better method long term.

Thanks again!!!
