Default Z06 Brakes?

What other kinds of brakes will fit an 01 Z06 with the stock alcoa's on it?

I was led to believe that C6 Z51 brakes would but are they better?

Thanks

The Z51 brakes aren't any better...

There isn't much room for anything bigger, when I called Baer for advice they told me that any calipers they have to fit the stock front wheel would be a waste of money.

They told me to just upgrade the rotors (factory ones warp easily)... or get bigger wheels which would open up some possibilities.

C6 Z51 brakes really aren't any better, just biggers rotors which look nicer, that's about it.

The only big brake kit that I'm aware fits stock Z06 wheels is the Wilwood kit. The C6 Z06, Stoptech and Brembo setups require bigger rims.

Another affordable option to improve performance would be 04 Z06 pads, Powerslot rotors and some stainless lines.

actually the C5 brakes with fresh DOT4 brake fluid and aggressive brake pads are better then many BBKS for stopping.

Default Dial in the stock setup.

I have to agree with the guys above. A good rotor/pad combination combined with fresh fluid and stainless steel brake lines and some cold air ducts if you track it a lot will be enough for 99% of all cars.

You don't even need to spend the huge bucks on a BBK. Although they do look really nice if you have giant wheels. But that opens a whole other can of worms.

The Stainless Steel Brake Company SSBC has the Tri Force calipers which fit under the stock wheels. They aren't comparable to a BB kit. But they do have three pistons, they do cure the pad tapering problem, shorten your stopping distances on the track, and will only set you back about $800.

Adding stainless steel brake lines help too! I have to agree if you get a good pad and rotors the stock ZO6 setup works fine. I have used the stock calipers, good brake fluid, stainless lines, cooling ducts to keep the brakes cool and make sure the fluid is always clean. I have been tracking my car since 2003 with no other upgrades I have had no brake failure or issues!

I have the Baer 2pc rotors Z51 deminsions and they will not fit with the stock wheels.

I'm running 18" Alcoa wheels front and rear though.

I run stock calipers at the track with Performance Friction two piece rotors (front only) and their 01 race pads. Dot 4 fluid and the front brake duct extensions.

This setup does not give up, even at Watkins Glen which is notorious for eating pads and rotors.

Wilwood makes a 6 piston caliper for a 17" Front wheel. Its called Superlite. Just Google wilwood caliper. A friend uses this with the stock wheels. He thinks they are great. I have read on the forum awhile back that Wilwood has issues. They didnt say what it was, but you could do a search. I have the stock calipers with Hawk HP Plus for the track. I'm still experimenting tho.

Good Luck with what ever you come up with.

With the stock 17" up front the calipers rub on the wheel just ever so slightly. I could probably fenesse the calipers just a bit and solve that, but I need to run 18" anyway since my eventual plan is to run C6Z brakes. I just like the way they look.

What is your rotor/pad set up?

The standard C5 kit from Wilwood may not fit under the stock Z wheels. That kit uses the narrow body Wilwood caliper and Wilwood 2 piece rotors. However, LGM's G Stop kit uses the wide Wilwood Superlite caliper with a stock rotor and fits under the stock Z wheel. A big advantage of the wide caliper is the thickness of the brake pads. I can usually get 8 to 10 track days on a set of those pads. The calipers really don't provide any more stopping force than the stock brakes. What they do provide is more consistent pedal travel over the life of the pads. You don't have to double pump the pedal to get it high enough to allow you to heel toe as the pedal is always at the same level.

The C6 Z51 brakes may work better than the stock C5 brakes as the larger rotor will provide additional braking torque and additional heat capacity but they will not fit under the 17 inch wheel.

What would happen if you only put larger rotors/calipers on the back?

Can the master cylinder handle the extra fluid?

I don't know what came over me but I just bought some of those 2pc rotors for the front and rear. The biggest thing that got me was the increase in rear rotor size that was what bothered me the most.
I was told that the 2pc/2pc kit would stop me about ten feet quicker from 60-0 so after biting all my nails off I made the decision to go with them.

Now I need to figure out what pads I need to use, I know I don't need race pads but I would also like to stay away from the parts store pads.

What would be a good choice for quiet, low wear, low dust pad that is economical?

Ceramic?
