Default 4 post lift

I want to buy a four post lift as a storage solution for my C-5 and my snow plow. I would appreciate any input on these or if you know where to buy a good one.

I have a Backyard Buddy,,Made in Ohio I believe. VERY SOLID and safe,,but also kinda pricey. There are many less expensive ones out there,,but I like the fact that the four post are made from full 4X4 box tube. Even with the car up it's solid and stable! MY 2 cents!!

Superior lift here. Bought in Wichita, Kansas I believe.

Highly recommend. It's the best tool in the garage!

Got mine from Superior when they were at the Kruse auction in Auburn IN. Very happy with it. Just make sure you have enough head room. I had to raise my ceiling up to 12 feet.

If safety, & made in USA quality are secondary to price, a Backyard Buddy Lift is second to none.

I purchased two of these over a five-year period. The price had increased from my first purchase five years prior, and I was not enthused about paying more, however the quality and stability is second to none. I have attended countless auto shows over the last 35 years and I always inspect any lifts that are setup, and I have found none better or equal for that matter.

There is a company – I think in Kansas?? – that copies the Backyard Buddy design and is cheaper, however I have never seen one up close and personal so I can’t attest to the quality of the welds on their lift. The Backyard Buddy welds are actually beautiful and plentiful.

I also recommend that you purchase an extended-height lift, as the runways are longer on these - even if you can’t use the extra height.

A Backyard Buddy Lift will NOT sway back and forth with or without a car or truck on it. Try that with your “open-channel” legged lift – those will sway a lot. Do this at your own risk and do not stand under the lift if you try this. Open channel types should be anchored to the concrete floor to prevent sway and the possibility of the legs “splaying” out like a spider.

BYB web link below – you should also watch the video on this web site.

http://www.backyardbuddy.com/auto-lift-comparison.asp

I have no association with any lift company.

ALSO - FYI -

I have a 10' 6" ceiling height and can park a Corvette on the lift with a sedan under or the other way around.

Buy from a local company if you can. Good luck with the mail order deals if you have a problem.

Backyard Buddy is a nice lift but their scare tactic ads really turned me off and so did their prices. Most of the cars fallng off the lifts are operator error/inattentiveness.

Yeah i watched their video today and thought the same thing, they have a nice lift but they do not care to slam the other guys into the mud face first.

Falling off the lift is one thing but a lift collapse (and some have been known to collapse) is a whole other matter.

You can ignore the difference in quality as even the cheap Chinese lifts do work – just be sure to anchor those legs to the floor and keep an eye on the locks to be sure they are engaging securely over time.

Be safe first and foremost.

I bought a PP4HD9 from America's Pride (Rick Nickerson 800-348-4244) at Corvettes at Carlisle a few years ago and have been very satisfied with it. It is a 9,000# capacity and has wheels, a diaper, and jack bridges, not the least expensive, but it seems to be well built. The most challenging part of the deal is getting the lift delivered as most come in one package weighing 3/4 ton or so. I had mine delivered to a friend's business where a fork lift was available. I took it home on my utility trailer and unpacked and assembled it with the help of a "cherry picker" engine hoist. If you don't have one available, it will take about 3 or 4 strong guys to muscle the parts into place. The asembly was very easy and took about two hours and a six-pack. The ceiling in my garage is 13' and I can put my 3/4 ton Suburban all the way up. Two Corvettes will fit under 10' or less. I have had the lift for about three years and it has probably paid for itself by now in oil changes, exhaust jobs, clutch changes, etc. A two post lift, IMHO, is more convenient for repairs, etc, but the 4 post variety is (again IMHO), safer and much better for storage. I have not regretted the purchase for a second. There are many good servicable lifts out there, but Rick was a very helpful, fair and pleasant vendor. Good luck!

Bought my B B years ago when they were at Fun Fest. They took me around a building where Mid-America still had a lift they used the year before. That thing almost flapped in the wind. Best money I ever spent,,Its solid. I prefer the safety latch slots being cut into solid 4X4 steel tube that chunks welded to a bent sheet steel channel!! Don't give a secont thought to it when I'm under it wrenching. My only problem is forgetting to duck at the right time sometimes,,I'm 6'2",,ouch!! I've had the motor/trans in and out several times on my shark.Beats the HELL out of jack stands and crawling in and out from under the car. Popular place for oil changes!!
