Default Help - Noise

My 2000 with 38,000 on the clock is making a noise like a throw-out bearing squealing. It does it both with the clutch in and in neutral with the clutch out. Any ideas on what and how much to have repaired? Thanks.

Sounds like the pilot bearing. Pretty expensive job if you don't have the means to do it yourself. Labor is the same as a clutch job... to replace a $12 part.

The noise was there briefly again yesterday and then gone after a short drive. The car had been sitting for a couple of months before the weekend drive. Does this still sound like the pilot bearing, and, if so, what would be a rough estimate for repair? Thanks.

well it sounds like mine, iam in the same ball park in mileage i think mine has 37k, when i also had the squealing noise i brought it to my mechanic, and explained that i havent driven the vette in a while he said its just the belt, and that the noise will go away after a couple of minutes, he also added some white lithium grease on the belt, the size of a tip of your finger, the noise hasnt been back, just drive the vette more often is what the mechanic says, good luck
