I was one of 45 corvette convertibles taking part in the Drivers Parade today at Atlanta Motor Speedway. They had moved all of us on to the straightaway in front of the grandstands to wait for the opening ceremonies to start. When the drivers are introduced we are to drive forward and pick them up for a parade lap. Well, after sitting for about 20 minutes we are told to start the cars and start inching up. Turn the key, it fires right up, put it in D and it dies stone dead. The DIC says "Pull the Key, Wait 10 seconds" OMG the dreaded collumn lock decides it is time to act up. My key won't turn, can't remove it, the car in front of me is pulling away and there are 30 cars behind me waiting for me to move. Semi panic attack, a dead corvette in front of nearly a 100,000. Shake the steering wheel, nothing, oh damn, I'm still in D. Put into park key now turns but still have message on DIC. Insert key again and it starts, no more problem. Move on up and wait some more, then pick up Martin Truex, Jr. and successfully complete parade lap around AMS. I am sure my face was as red as my car. Fun time but geeze, what a time to act up.
My car has had the recall done and this is the first time this has ever happened. Hopefully never again.
Glad you got her going. How was Martin? He seems like a cool guy.
He seemed like a real nice guy. Didn't get to talk too much and I didn't even know he had been in the hospital the night before with a kidney stone. Told me his car wasn't too good but he still finished 10th.
[QUOTE=Bill K;1569220183]Glad you got it started. What a great thing to be able to do, How did you get picked for that task>
Glad Martin got his stone fixed...lol

Since GM and their dealers are in such a financial pinch, they are unable to supply cars for these events as in the past. So NASCAR has started contacting the "local" clubs asking for volunteers. You get two tickets to the race plus special infield parking. Since I am in Coastal Corvettes of Savannah, I received an email from the Atlanta NCM Ambassador seeking 45 convertibles to partake in this. I reacted just quick enough to get a spot. I'd do it again in a heartbeat!
If the race in your area is a GM event, they'll be looking for more cars so get involved with a local club.
What a great opportunity. I am glad it worked out for you.
The recall did not fix the column lock issue. Mine was done in 2004, and locked last summer at a cost of mega $$$$. I have since installed the CLB. Make sure you do it.
