Hi Everyone,
I have read through the replys and as I had expected your all pretty respectful of the earlier models. Alot of you either have had or still do own an earlier model Corvette and have fond memories of them. I may like the C5 but have never had the chance to drive one. Anyone wanna loan me their car for the weekend? We can let this posting go. Have a Great Day All. Copper
I wave to 'em all. However, when my wife and I were looking, she sat in a C4, got out, and stated it was fine if I buy one, but she would never get back into a C4. It was much more difficult for her to get in and out of than a C5. She and I both love our 2K C5 coupe.
of course i did. But sometime i think we get "baited" into these long pointless discussions where the answers are all normal, predictable, and show that we want things to be alright. Then a week, a hundred postings, and several pages later it is still moving. A writer about the internet whose views i respect cautioned against these threads. he says after the first dozen or so answers, assuming it isn't a poll or a tech issue not yet solved, after the first dozen or so posts, there is nothing left, except the style with which something as said, and in the long run too much of this hurts the group.
Actually in this case, I was half funnin', having sinned by posting several times myself.
But the one about a week ago about the BMW was embarrassing. The guy was laughing at us, and I tried several times to get people to stop In that case, the best response would have been for his original post to have gone unanswered until it fell off the end of the list into the trash... no responses at all, the ultimate bitch slap.
But on this thread, I was actually funnin'. This is a very old forum (look at my join date), it has a large membership, and flame wars are almost non existent. it is healthy enough to indulge it self once in a while. But I was getting tired of tracking it, and wanted to unsubscribe!
I never met a Corvette I didn't like. I have owned and driven every generation of the Corvette except the C6. I love the C5 and I imagine
the C6 is probably comparable. I spent a lot of time behind the wheel of an '84 and had many great adventures with that car. Until the C5 came along, the C4 was the ultimate Corvette. They all get getter with the next generation. I always wave to other Corvette owners no matter what year car they are driving. We are all in this together.
I had an '88 C4 with the Doug Nash 4+3 speed.
I loved that car and every mile I put on it. I never had a problem or a complaint. Red on Black leather with glass roof.......ah those were the day's!
Don't think for a moment though that I would give up my C5 for another one, not a chance in that happening unless finances are behind it, but I think a real good well taken care of C4 would almost cost as much as a C5 so the likelyhood of it happening is very slim.
If finances allowed however, I would buy a C4 in a heart beat as a daily driver since my C5 is strictly a sunny day garage queen.
I guess what I'm trying to say is............" I'm not a C4 hater! "
I guess I'm in the minority, but I am not a 'Corvette guy'... rather just a C5 guy, really. I never cared much about the Corvette until the C5 was introduced and I fell in love with it's sexy lines right away. I always thought the C4 looked 'too 80s' since it's design is the only generation of Corvette that is not timeless, not to mention the trailer park image it portrays to most in society.
Had a '94 6-speed coupe which I never really "bonded" with. Granted it had almost 100k miles when I bought it and sometimes it felt like all 100k miles. Unfortunately all I could think about was all the "warts" and was happy to be able to trade it in on a year-old '01. Perhaps if I had purchased the C4 when it was newer or better cared for I would have felt differently. As much as I liked the Corvette mystic, even in the '94, I was so much happier when I got into the C5.
Wonder how many C4 "haters" bought tired, old C4's like mine and how many C4 "lovers" bought their's new or relatively new?
I have owned two big block C3 Corvettes that were daily drivers (one was a 71 LS6 with 425HP that I owned for 11 years), an 86 coupe that I owned for 10 yrs and used to take to real car shows when they existed and autocrossed and tracked it on a regular basis. I sold the 86 to take delivery of a 97 and once I started driving the C5 I realized none of the previous cars could hold a candle to it. I don't trash talk the previous years but I try to convince people looking to buy a Corvette to pass them up unless they are into collecting certain C1s, C2s or C3s. The C5 raised the performance, handling and comfort bar so far the other cars just can't touch it. Just like in the 60s when a newer better car comes along you go with the flow and don't look back.
It was the ZR-1 that made me fall in love with the C4. Truly an amazing car. I got rid of my first C4 and then got my ZR-1 and then bought a Z06 to keep her company. Do I wave....hell yes to every Vette. I could care less as long as it is a Vette because everybody has different tastes. I have now sold my ZR-1 and just kept my Z06 but more so because it is easier to get parts and repair my Z06 ( so far no issues LOL) vs the ZR-1 otherwise the C4 would still be in my garage.

of course the c4 looks 80's style.. most of the c4's were built in the 80's....DUH!!!!!!
i have owned a C4 (93 vert) and now own (in addition to my C3) an 04 CE vert. there is a world of difference in the 2 vehicles in my opinion, but to say that one owner would hate the other is taking it a bit too far in my opinion. as has been previously mentioned in several of these posts, we are fans of the corvette be it a solid axle car, stingray, etc. i have owned 4 corvettes in my lifetime (still have 2 at this point), some have been more of what i expected from a corvette and some (the 93 in particular) have been a bit less "friendly" from a design standpoint. i doubt you will find the wife of anyone who owns a later C4 who is particularly fond of having to "climb" out of the car over the rail in a ladylike manner (particularly in a dress). my wife used to hate it. is that a reason to cause hatred of the C4, i doubt it. mine was dependable and everything i expected from the car. did it have the same kind of "guts" and appeal of the 63 split window i owned, or the 69 350/350 stripper vert i owned that would blow you back into the seat when you got on it, absolutely not. was it homoginized a bit to appeal to a slightly different (and obviously more affluent purchaser), more creature comforts and "gadgets" in the way of electronics, etc, sure it was. the market had changed and the old hot rodders like myself who relished to ***** to the wall american sports car had 2 choices, choose another ride or enjoy the changes and "get with the times", lol. perhaps that's why lots of us still have an "oldie" sitting in the garage next to the C5 or C6 (or even the C4). do i hate the C4 and those who own them, HELL NO!! each to his own, each generational model is pretty unique to itself and as they say on the streets, that's what makes horse racing! i wave to them all. SAVE THE WAVE, FOREVER

You're probably just baiting but I'll bite. Trailer park image??? Maybe you might know, I personally have never been in a Trailer Park. what's it like? You should trade your C5 in on a lexus my man.
