the exhaust welded by the OP was actually welded in a chamber..which is how ti should be done. Not in the open air and you have to purge the chamber for a couple hours..it's a long process to do it correctly and should be charged accordingly. I know one thing..the welds I have seen on the other posters here don't hold a candle to the OP stuff.

I got some pics if he doesn't..I think there might be some of it being done as well. I'll dig them up.

Actually a great mod for two reasons...
You get to keep the lightweight system and it sounds very close to the Bill Boat PRT's..... OK maybe three.... doesn't cost $900 if you have a friend that can weld Ti correctly!!

Nice info

I am on the fence about this.....when I see stock Ti's selling for $400 and add $100-150 (at best) in parts & labor, it seems I would be happier buying a Corsa C5 Extreme for $975 and have no drone, a better sound IMHO and much better looking tips

Heres a pic of one that I chopped/cut/welded up. No purging, no chamber, and nothing speacial. Just good tight fits on the bypass tubing to make nice welds. Its not as difficult as people make it out to be. It should NOT make sparks fly out every where (Roman candles ) like described. What make it exspensive is people not really knowing what they are doing, or people who really DO know what they are doing. Its one extreme to the other.

Thanks.Yeah 1.5 inch tubing, with hole cut to match inside diameter. I cut the tubing to fit tightly on both ends, then marked around the tubing, and cut the hole just inside the line. This has fully open passage thru the tubing.

My MY 03 Z06 has this mod as well and I love it. Great sound, no resonance, and the welds are actually very nice.

What's this "drone" with the TI mod? Haven't heard that before.

I meant modding the Ti or buying a Corsa so I would not get "drone". I think the Ti bypass mod is a great value and if someone local to me did this I would have done it already.

FWIW, I see where the Corsa C5 Extreme is now selling for $881.63 shipped from a non supporting vendor. Very tempting.

Sorry to bring this thread back from the dead but it has a ton of good info and i'm hoping some others can chime in.

Looking to do this mod...i want to use closer to 1.5" pipe. I think it sounds better.

What about this: its 1.75" x 0.037
http://cgi.ebay.com/TITANIUM-TUBING-...item48384058cb

Or: 1.5" x 0.028
http://cgi.ebay.com/TITANIUM-TUBING-...item48384058c0

I just want to make sure its not too thin of pipe...any help?

Stevo, there's nothing wrong about bringing this thread back to the top. I've started another thread about this also. I hope to be able to do mine next week.

I believe you need to use grade 2 Ti which is also shown as CP2 (commercially pure). I used that on mine and it came out great. Others can confirm if the type in the ebay add will work too.

For the thickness the welder for mine guessed the stock tube was close to .065 and I ended up using .040. Someone told me if you go too thin you increase the chances of burning through it.

Check with forum member jtkeller for the pipe... Justin Keller

Give Don Carter a call at 903-466-2870. Ship them to him and he will weld them and ship them back.

I enjoyed my Borla Stingers, but my wife...not so much.

This mod is not only cost effective, but it is the best of both worlds. It is similar to stock below 2500 rpm and a beast at 3500+. No sound clip does it justice. If someone in your area has the mod, check it out in person. I live near Dallas, PM me.

Thanks for the plug Speed-Racer.

I will do these all day long for $200+Material costs (Tubing & Tig wire) Plus, I will guarantee MY WELDS. If the weld fails under normal conditions (not covered under collision or direct impact due to negligence), then I will repair them at no cost (excludes shipping if applicable) to you! The welds shown above are MY welds, and though I thought they were a little lumpy, they are decent and acceptable. Feel free to call me with questions or comments regarding the mod. Don Carter (903) 466-2870, or Email me at carterdonnieb@yahoo. com. I dont check my Email that often, for a quick response just call. If you get my voicemail, just leave me a message and I will get back to you as soon as I can. Thanks, Don
