I can program my key fob, but it will not stay programed. Will stay programed less than a minute. Has a new battery. Any ideas?
Thanks for your help.
It is not a real big deal as the top is down most of the time and I do not use the passive option.
It is one of those things if it is on the key chain I would like for it to work. That may be my answer: take it off the key chain.
Someone just a few days ago had a thread where he was talking about the solder joints on one of the chips being bad causing problems, could be you have the same problem, and after he resoldered them it worked. Maybe you could do a search and find the thread.
I had the same problem and same symptoms. I took it to
the daeler they checked it all out including the receiver in the
car and found I needed a new fob.

I have a '99 that also has occasional fob issues. Most people say to just buy a new one from Gene Culley. Here are the March specials from the GM Parts House: http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c5-g...-specials.html
Both of mine did the same thing -work, no work. Finally bought a new fob, programmed it and now all is well. Read on here somewhere that most fobs only last 8-10 years at best.
Stealership wanted $50.00 to program. You can do it thru the DIC for free. Info in owners manual!

Here is a thread with my issues. I had the same trouble. After the second one quit about 10 months ago, I haven't done anything with it since. I was going to replace everything - receiver and all, but I just haven't done it. I have been using my key since. First car I have ever owned that even had a transmitter to unlock the doors. Made me sick when it quit working.
I had the same problem. Took mine to work and re-flowed all the solder connections using a microscope. Worked fine for about 4 months. Then started acting up again. I got a new FOB from Gene, problem fixed.
I took mine apart and do not think I could solder it. Looked akin to brain surgery. I will get one from Gene. One chevy parts dept. told they had them for $114.00 but he could sell it to me for $85.00. Gene's price was $78.00 when I checked today.
Thanks you all for your input.
Kep fob will go on the to do list just below the other things like oil sensor, TPS, and A/C issues.
For now with the top and being able to go through the gears listening to exhaust will have to do.
I have the same issue with my fob and I have a 99 as well. I have been told just to go get a new one and it will fix the issue. I just havent gotten around to it yet. You also said you are having A/C problems. What problems are you having with it. I recently had some issues with mine. I checked the charge and it was good so I didnt have a leak. Then I got to thinking well my outside air temp sensor was reading a really off number like -27. So I thought maybe that had something to do with why the AC would not kick on. Then I was told yes the AC will not kick on if your temp reads below 32 degrees. So I replaced the sensor which took all of 3 mins and the AC kicked on. Hope that helps. Sorry for the novel.

Add me to the list of successful fixes. I took the FOB apart and discovered the same issue with a bad solder joint as shown in the figure in the link. I was able to inspect this under a microscope and confirmed a cracked solder joint. I reflowed the entire FOB just in case and the FOB now works fine. For those of you that were considering glue, this will not provide a permanent fix; you need to re-solder the joints. This is the second time this forum has helped me with my 2000 'Vette.
