Reason: change headline
If the lights are coming up with just the driving lights on then you probably need to repplace your nylon gear or gears on your headlight motor(s). When they get stripped the lights do funny things. I replaced mine with brass gears...no more problems!
If I turn the stalk only to the parking lights and do not go past that position the headlight doors stay closed. With the parking lights on, I can also turn the fog lights on and the headlight doors still remain closed. However, if you turn the stalk past the parking light position the doors raise and they do not close again until you turn the lights completely off.
You did not mention whether you have the twilight sentinel feature or not. If so, that must be off, if you want the headlight doors closed.

this is how they are supposed to work - go to headlights and then back to parking lights and the doors Should stay open - among other things, this allows you to get to the bulbs when needed.
Don't know how to fix it but you definately have a problem. I saw a thread a few days ago regarding this and I think it had a fix posted. Good luck finding it!

The headlights cycle open and closed when they shouldn't. For example, when arming or disarming the alarm or just turning on the fog lights or parking lights, the headlights will cycle or go up but not on. This is actually 100% related to the stripped gear. In every case where I have heard of people complaining about the lights cycling or coming up when they shouldn't, they also have the problem of the stripped gear as mentioned above.
