I ordered a Porter Cable buffer almost a year ago with the pads and Mazerna polishes, and Wolf Gang sealer. Well yesterday I decide I'll play around a little bit with it. My car got its first hand wash in probably 6 months so it had a nice layer of grime on it.
The paint finish was rough when I rubbed my hand across it and the buffer/polish didn't fix it. So today I clay barred it. WOW!! Smooth as a baby's bottom. I then applied 2 different polishes (with 2 different pads) and then the sealer (with yet another pad). I'm not a perfectionist and I still need to try and detail some nooks and cranny's, but overall I'm happy.
Side note: I installed some 5.25 speakers in the rears for some back fill on my system and the little panel that holds the speakers has a Corvette logo on it... those logos are all over

John,
First of all, Car looks great.
Can I ask how long it took to do the clay bar?
Did you notice a big difference?
I've never clay barred mine, wasn't sure on a pewter coupe if it was worth it or not....Ron

Clay bar was maybe 30 minutes (I wasn't keeping track). It went by fast. The clay bar is what made all the difference. The paint felt almost like sand paper when you would rub your hand across it. I buffed a section and it still had the roughness in there. The clay bar made it as smooth as glass. It is amazing the crap the clay bar pulled out of the paint. If your paint is already smooth to the touch I don't think the clay bar will do anything for you, but if the paint isn't smooth I think it is the only thing that will help. You must however wax after using a clay bar. It basically strips all of your waxes and stuff off of there, which is where the little rough particles get trapped (in the wax, creating the rough feel). Clay bar made the paint super smooth, the polishes made it slippery smooth and the sealer topped it all off. I almost didn't do it, but once I got started it was kind of fun. Make sure you have a lot of microfiber cloths. I used about 7 of them.
