Default Tire pressure sending unit Question

I inherited with the purchase of my Vette another complete set of 20" rims and tires, my question is how do I know (without a install) if these rims and tires have tire pressure sending units installed or not? Anybody? Rob

You can tell by the way the valve stem looks. They are different than wheels without TPS.

The TPMS may be installed with bands, in that case the valve stem wouldn't show you.

Have you have looked at the stem to see if it has the nut that holds the sensor on the wheel? If it doesn't one it could still have a sensor being held on with a band as others have suggested. But if there is not nut on the stem you could test the wheel with a tool.

On the newer style GM and some other brands of TPS you need a tool to activate it instead of a magnet. There are various brands of tools but the better ones beside activating the sensor can also read the individual serial number of the sensor, the frequency it transmits and the state of the battery, I have one of these tool and I'm sure some other members do also but Dealers and tire stores have them too. You could take them and have them check them.
