I just got a 2001 c5 , it is in need of new rubber all around ,
can someone point me in the right direction for new tires . the wheels are stock and i am not looking for a track tire all my driving will be on local roads , i see tirerack.com has a few options . i would just like some input as to what you guys are using .
I just put General Exclaim on my C5 - Have only had them on for 200 miles, but so far so good - Ranked # 4 out of 39 in survey and has 380 treadwear rating - $550.00 shipped from TireRack
Are you wanting runflats or non? Alot of guys are moving away from the runflats for various reasons. It is purely subjective...but two diff. catagories to look at. I'm sure alot of guys will chime in w/their opinions. There is also the question: what is your budget? If you are looking for a good inexpensive non runflat, look at the Sumitomo HRTZ III. Tire Rack: 245/45/17 $102.00 275/40/18 $139.00 Or if you can spend more, look at the Goodyear GS-D3 255/40/17 $207.00 285/35/18 $293.00 those are the biggest you can go on stock rim size.

I went with the Sumitomos just a couple of weeks ago - from Tire Rack. Compared to my old worn out runflats these things are awesome... you'll find a ton of tire debates if you look around here...
i was looking at something similar to a stock tire , i dont intend to drive it too hard , what are the advantages to a run flat , and are there any disadvantages to a non run flat . i also dont want to break the bank buying new rubber .
You need to ask yourself - How often have I had a blowout, such that I was left stranded? If you have never had this happen or it was so long ago that you can't remember the year, you'll be better off with non-runflats. Their superior ride is priceless, IMO and my experience is that most leaks are slow enough so that you can easily find any tire shop before the tire actually goes flat.
Now, let's talk about performance: Do you.....
-rarely take a corner fast enough to catch the attention of a police officer?
-never exceed 100 MPH?
-would shudder if a bunch of buddies asked to to join them on a road course like Virginia International Speedway?
If you answered yes to all of the above, an inexpensive set of tires like the General Exclaim, Avon Techs, or Sumitomos may be perfectly acceptable.
However, if you drive your C5 to its limits (occasionally or more often), then a top-tier tire like the Goodyear GSD3 (best all-around for the price and lasts longest), a BF Goodrich KD2 (a bit noisy, but very competant tire), or Michelin PS2 (does everything well, but priced for the wealthy buyer) tire is a much better solution.

If you want to stick with runflats, Firestone Firehawks or Michelin's are good choices. For non-runflats, Goodyear GS-D3 or Michelin Pilot Sports are fine tires.
I have about 2000 miles on a set of michelin pilot sport plus all season zp's (run flat). very pleased with them. I don't know how the run flats compare with the non-runflats in this same tire, but the difference between these and the goodyear run flats I took off is dramatic. So much so, that imo, the only factor I would consider between the two would be the price difference. Also, the tread wear rating is so high on these tires, it helps justify the higher price when compared to something that costs half but will only last half as long.

Try the Michelin Pilot Sport Run Flats. I have the All Season and they are wearing great and do not have much road noise as the Goodyear's.
i bought my pilot sports a couple months ago. i love them. goodyear makes great tires, but these michelins make it feel like a completely different car. no road noise and turn on a dime.
A big thanks again to everyone , i ordered tires from tire rack yesterday around 2 pm est. I pulled into the drive way @ home and there were 4 new tires . Less than 24 hours and they are in my driveway , awsome !!!!
Forgot to ask , i am taking the tires to be mounted do i have to retrain the sensors , or anything i should know . Sorry for all the questions , i am a new owner to this car. All my others are pre 1969 muscle cars .
