I love this forum and am constantly amzed by the knowledge and helpfulness by the members. I am fairly new to Corvettes,(not counting a 59 Roadster in the late 60's), but am a veteran motorhead. But some of the acronyms that are used are a little confusing. I have a 2001 what I would call a hatchback as the rear window lifts with the rear deck. Is this a "fixed roof coupe" (FRC) or is the hardtop convertible style a "FRC"? I'll probably ask more later. Oh yeah, how do you get into the "frequently asked questions" folder?
First, welcome to the forum, you'll be amazed at how much money signing up just cost you... The FRC was made in 2000 and was the precursor to the Z06. It was basically a hardtop vette whose lines followed that of the convertible top. Your car is a coupe with the hatchback top. On this forum, FRC also refers to those elite members of the flying roof club. Basically forgot to button down all the hatches and were instantly greated by sunshine as they drove down the road since the targa blew off.
When it comes to frequently asked questions, the search button can be your friend (but doesn't always work)!
The unique FRC , fixed roof coupe that was first introduced in 1999 thru 2000 is based on the convertible is also refered to as a hardtop. The FRC body is the most rigid of the three body styles ( 11 to 13 % more rigid , depending on who you read). It was only available as an entry level , low option Corvette. This model should not be compared to the 2001-2004 Z06 which looks similar.
The FRC body design was the only corvette to incorporate a traditional trunk.
The swept backed glass hatch model is most often refered to as a coupe.
I fell in love with the FRC / Z06 models and have two (2) red 2000 FRCes and an '01 Z06 [IMG][/IMG][IMG][/IMG]

Another thing to remember about the FRC's is that it does not have the removable targa top like your coupe does (at least, not from the factory - there have been one or two members here who have modified their FRC's or Z06's to be able to remove the roof or have made it into a convertible).
