Can anyone explain why there is such a huge difference in cost between CAI manufacturers and their product. Additionally, even though they appear to be the same ie. BBK and K&N; is there something different between the way they are made, their efficiency, or the materials used. Thanks

Larger companies actually have an engineering / R&D department, and can back up claims with real numbers. Quality is usually better and they actually spend money on advertising. With all this said, they can justify charging more money for a better item than a piece of pipe and a chinese filter on EBAY, and some people will not mind spending more for quality.

Absolutely. Do some homework and you'll find out the differences.
Just my opinion of course.

The K&N FIPK filter, for example, has carbon fiber endcaps, but for the most part, plastic and aluminum component costs to the manufacturer/vendor will vary according to how many they buy from the fabrication/injection/blow molding house. And don't forget about the amortization of tooling costs which can be very high, depending on the process.

Expect to pay a minimum of $250 and as much as $500 for a decent-to-high-quality intake system.

You get what you pay for. If you want performance, expect to pay $$$.
