Default Purchasing 2000 conv

I'm looking at a 2000 triple black conv, in my area with 51,000 miles
very good cond, needs rear tires, for 17,500. If I decide to buy i will get it checked out by a mechanic, he also owns a 2004 vette conv. Any advice or anything special about this year I need to know about. I would appreciate any input. Thanks

Sounds like a good price. I've got some Word files that may help you out, including a buyers checklist. If you would like a copy of them, PM me your e-mail address and I'll send them to you.

Check it over carefully and if it passes your inspection go for it.

Here's a list I would check:
- Under the battery to see if it leaked
- Inside of front tires for wear (even wear across them)
- CD front and back deck working?
- All switches, windows, doors, HUD, deck, gas lid
- Check headlights up and down, listen for any grinding
- Engine compartment should look clean to just dusty
- Check rims for rash, pealing etc.
- Seats for tears etc.....and side and back air bladders working
- Rear axels for signs of leaking, any other leaks or signs of.
- Brake pads
- Smooth shifting
- All guages working and DIC too
- Linkage from air filter to engine, mine was not completely on and sealed
- Back window should look solid in top and still glued well
- Check wiring etc under fuel rail covers
- Check radiator fluid & belts, any pullys
- Check radio antenna
- Check close for any paint overspray on windows etc.
- Make sure you get the keys, fobs, lug lock key, owners manual, video if they have it.
- Look for little signs that it has been taken care of = clean and repaired when needed.
- Any dealer should be able to pull up the records from the Vin #, at least on warranty or dealer work done on the car. Might even be worth a few bucks if they charge for it. Ask them to explain any work preformed....sometimes hard to tell by the descriptions they give on the work sheets.

**Oh, and check the tire pressure senors, ask if replaced. It's about time the originals went out. 2k sensors will cost you about $400 to replace. Should get a reading when you push "guages button" till you get to front and back. Even if they are working, if they haven't been replaced they are probably due.

If you have the luxury of doing all this and have your mechanic check it over you doing about the best you can.

Probably a few more people can add. Sounds like a great price if the car is in good shape. Good luck

Ditto to what NOWUCME said.

My triple black vert, 35k, had the battery acid melt the AC vaccuum lines at 16k, vert window has partially pealed off twice (glued it back), and AC readout in dash is dim (known problem). But I love this car, it's awesome, fun with the top down. Been enjoying it for 9 years now!!
