A coworker of mine purchased a brand new 08 Z06 this past Tuesday. An absolutely beautiful machine. Today she tells me that yesterday on her way home, the TPMS registered a flat tire on the right front. She stops to check it and it does appear to be flat. She went to the closest service station and refilled the tire but it was flat again by the time she got home. Called the dealership and they told her to take it to a local tire shop they use to have it checked out.
Today she tells me that the tire shop pulled the tire off the rim and it was dry rotted Turns out all 4 tires were dry rotted. I told her to check the DOT stamp to see when they were produced but the car is at the dealership, who is replacing all 4 tires for free. I would say that is the very least they should do.
I think I would have freaked out
if its an 08 left over, those things can sit around outside for along time... They often get flat spots on the tires and are usually replaced when someone buys the car, however dry rot seems a bit odd great car though, glad it all got fixed for her
Wow! Glad she wasn't pushing the Z to it's limit before she found out!
The very least the dealer could do was replace the tires. Hell, she handled it better than I would have. After spending $60K plus on a car?! Hopefully they threw in a few free oil changes as well.
You guys are right...I put "new" GS-D3's on my 02 a year or so ago and the date stamp on those were 1-2 years old. I pass by this dealer on a reg basis and they've only had the car for about a month. Been in the showroom most all the time, only had 7 miles on the clock when she got it. Not sure how it was treated before they got it. Even with bad tires, I'd put it in my garage any day!
There is an uncovered GM overflow lot next to my office building full of brand new Pontiac Solstice, Saturns Sky's and other cars just sitting around. Some of them have been there for at least a year!
BTW, sometimes I take my C5 to a N. Virgina dealership for service that I can't do myself. There are always several new C6's parked outside exposed to the weather, a couple of them Z06's. But what really kills me is they have $18,000 pick up trucks in the show room... I once asked the head salesman why the Z06's sat outside? He told me. "It's just a car"....
