I've posted before that I am planning on a C5 purchase sometime this summer. I've got 140k on my MustangGT vert and replaced the clutch at 90k. I'm really considering going with the A4 so my son would be comfortable driving it, but I love my manual tranny. So in my ongoing thirst for C5 knowledge...
How many miles do you guys get on a stock manual before the clutch needs replacing. I've done the search thing but haven't found the answer and it looks like a major undertaking...not something I would ever attempt myself!
Regarding the A4, what kind of maintenance do they need? Is there a major rebuild required to keep them running past 100k or 155k?
It's kind of like asking 'how long is a piece of string?'. It depends.
Driven normally I don't see why it wouldn't last over 100K. Thats what I plan on getting.
My PT Cruiser is currently at 125K on it's original clutch and I see no reason to replace it.
It's just the way I drive.
Take it down the drag strip a few times and your experience may vary...

If the car was taken care of and not beaten on, a stock C5 clutch should last 100K miles or more. And the Auto tranny should last at least that too with proper fluid/filter changes.
It really depends on a lot of things. How hard the car was driven, type of miles (highway versus city), how well the car was maintained, mods, and luck of the draw.
I'v seen many cars that need clutch replacment at as low as 20,000 miles and have seen alot go past 120,000 miles but as tony said 75,000 and your likley on borrowed time. Evertbody drives different.
Had an old Volvo 760 turbo that was still going strong at 225,000 till a tree fell on it!! My FRC has 72k and is solid as ever even with a few test and tune sessions on it (No brutal launches though!). All depends on how it's been driven!! I don't see a clutch in the foreseeable future!! A good test drive should give you a good feel for it's condition!
