Default Got the wrong tires.

I posted this in tech, maybe someone over here can help.

I recently bought four 06 z06 wheels for my car. They are18 x 10.5 rear and 9.5 x 17 front.
I also bought Falken 265/40/17 for the front which fit great and 285/35/18 for the rear. Which is where I am having the problem. The tire that is called for is a 295/35/18 but Falken dosen't make them so the guy I bought them from(tires direct) said the 285's will work. I mounted the 285's on the rear wheels and when I put them on the car they didn't look right. The tire looked to small for the width of the rim.

So now the problem is do I buy 4 tires so I have a matched set. Buy the right size in another brand just for the rear, 2 different thread styles. Or the should I buy a set of 9.5 x 18 wheels for the back and mount the 285's on them. The back spacing on the 9.5 x 18's are 54 mm.

I think only you can answer that question. personally I'd keep the front/rear tires matched and either get different wheels that your tires fit on, or get different tires that will fit the wheel. sell/return whatever you end up not using.

you bought the repro wheels, not orginals. as for tire sizes, you could go as large as 295 in front and 335 in the rear on stock form. as for your rims, a 265 is fine. get rid of the 285 and get a 315.

sell the 285 on here. what would ask for it? i might need a set of 285's for my front rims... lmk.

i currently run the CCW Big Streets and i have the 295 front and 335 rear and ever so slight rubbing in front.

but as for the OP post, his rims accomodate the correct size. Not everyone has to run the typical 17"/18" combo with 245 and 275. that just looks wierd IMHO... with such a wide car, IT needs or BEGS for fat tires!!!

The biggest concern you have is with making sure the tires are the correct diameters. Looks are secondary. What you currently have will give you traction control problems as soon as you start driving the car. Your front tire is 25.4 inches in diameter the rear tire should be at least 26 inches in diameter to avoid problems with the traction control. If you get 4 new tires then choose something where the rear diameter is at least a half inch greater than the front. Be careful listening to tire salesman. Most are not familiar with the issues you can get into by choosing different tires.

The front tire is 25.3 and the rear is 25.9. Those are from the Falken web site. I was told by people on this forum that the .5 difference will be fine.

The advice to go with the 315 will solve your problem and I run them on the rear of my Vette and they are a good tire

I don't want to mix tire brands.
