Someone please explain why these pucks are necessary. Can you not jack up a vette without them? Eckler's sells them for $70.00 a set and I do not see why you would need more than one for your jack. Explainations will be appreciated.
I just read all of the responses and thanks for the help. Too bad the pucks did not come with the car.

I would not use anything but a puck or something between the jack and the lifting areas to protect the body. You can make your own or buy actual hockey pucks and make your own to protect against cracking. Just my .02 worth.

4 pucks are used if you raise the whole car, If you don't use the pucks you need to make some kind of spacer, If not the jack will hit the body where it wraps under the car and could crack the body...
You can lift the car underneath if you are on the spots provided. Lifting on the side rails may damage the fiberglass without the pucks. I found some nice one's with a bag to carry on the big site for about $25 bucks.
I originally got these vulcanized rubber ones from Ecklers but the rubber stinks badly, so I tossed them and got the billet aluminum one's from Elite Engineering. Like those much better. I keep them in their box in one of the small compartments.
I suppose that you could get by with just using one puck, but you would have to switch from hole to hole if you were jacking up the whole car. I got the urethane ones from Ecklers and they are worth the money. When I took the vette in for tires 2 weeks ago, the shop owner and the mechanic both asked me if I had the pucks with me. Made me feel a lot safer about them jacking the car up.
It's easier to use two pucks, that way you don't have to worry about the I-bolt sticking through. I glued them together with some type of super glue from Lowe's that worked on rubber. (And let me tell you, you better have the pucks lined up when you put them together because they will NEVER come apart). If you need to know what type of cement it is, let me know.

Rossi

Yes you can, just not where the pucks are designed to be used. Actually, if you are going to jack up the Vette, the place for the pucks are not the preferred location. The puck positions are designed for a lift, not a jack.

Yes, you can jack up the Vette without the pucks, but not from the sides. Putting a jack up against the bottom of the rocker panels will end up cracking them.
You can use the front and rear cross-members to jack the car up, with the rear one being fairly easy. The front one is a bit more challenging due to the low front end height.
