Anybody running the "protective radiator screen"? I've seen them vary from around $50 up to $100. What are the opinions on which models are the best to choose from? Is there any downside to installing one of these? Thanks.
You can get the same screen that many vendors use in the construction dept at Home Depot. $8 gets you enough material to make at least six screen kits. It's easy to make your own. Is it worth it? Absolutely, it keeps so much junk out of your radiator, leaves, etc.
I made one out of a peice of window screen I just used all the attaching points that were already on the car, fitting it behind existing panels.
A half hour and a few dollars worth of screen, my car was sucking up grass when I drove it thru my yard to the garage behind the house, it was one of those days when I had nothing to do, and some time to kill, I would never spend that much money on something like that.
Thanks for the insight everyone...sounds like a fairly easy DIY project. I've noticed some fairly reasonable ones on that auction site that already come cut to dimensions. Good to know that one isn't really better than the other.
I found that plenty of stuff would still make it through the screen, and then I would have to remove the screen to clean off the front of the radiator (no a/c). I sold the screen.
