Default Question regarding underhood paint work

For those of you with painted parts under your hood, windshield wash bottles etc... what method of paint prep was used so that the paint doesn't peel or flake?
Thanks!

I prepped the parts I've painted the same as any other part. Wipe it down with a prep rag, to remove wax, silicone, sand it lightly to scuff it up, wipe it down with a tack rag again, and paint it. I've got painted parts that have been under my hood for 4 years now that look just as good as the day I painted them.

sounds basic, I wasn't sure if priming was required

Me too

The biggest problem I had was dust when the paint was wet

Priming always helps, weather it a car part or a wall in a home. If you prime it first you will get a more even coat and use less paint. Most of the parts I have painted on mine. I painted with Dupli-color Mirage. Its a 3 step process (base coat, color coat, top coat)
