I started to remove my BSM and after taking off the front spear piece I was left with a black outline of the moulding and of course the adhesive...OK I can remove the adhesive but what do I do to remove the heavy black out line where the moulding was..Did any of you that removed the BSM have this situation...?? Help would be appreciated.

I just got in from doing mine and same thing here. I was able to get most of it off with a clay bar. I got some of that goo gone gel think I'm going to go back out and let it soak on longer? Let me know what works for you.
I removed mine yesterday. Only took me 8+ years! Just like getting a new car. All black stains came off easily with polishing compound. Goo Gone and WD-40 couldn't touch them.

The clay kits are sold by several companies. Basically it's a soft clay designed for paint cleaning with a lubricant spray. Wording on small areas: Spray the lube...rub the clay back and forth on the area (if it sticks-spray more lube) Then turn the clay over and look at the junk it picked up....It's amazing......Clean with microfiber towel....Wax Twice a year
BTW: Knead the clay between panels
Enjoy

When you guys say a "polishing compound" what does that mean exactly?
Polishing compound is similar to "rubbing compound" only less abrasive. According to the labels, ...."easily removes light scratches, light to medium oxidation & swirl marks"
I would not use rubbing compound. Try heating it with a hair dryer and rolling off the residual with your finger. If 3M adhesive cleaner (red spray can) or googone doesn't work, then try some 3M Perfect-It II (39009), which is a less abrasive polish/swirl mark remover (found at most auto parts stores).

Just got the rest of mine off. After getting most of it off with the clay bar I was able to get the last of the line off with Meguiars cleaner wax. Good luck guys...
I found the black stripe absolutely impossible to remove...the thought of having to do two doors and another spear was too much foer me ..so I replaced the spear i had removed and called it a day. ( Besides from the condition of the BSM on the door it appears it has done much to protect the basic door from several dings ).
