how many of you have bought or sold a vette and told or was told of the piston rap on this ls-1.i sold my 04 coupe with 15k on it.never abused, ever.it had the piston rap till she warmed up about 5 minutes.i researched here on the forum when i got the car and was told quote: not to worry it's the nature of the beast: so i never gave it another thought.the seller never mention it to me.now i feel guitly cause a forum member that bought my car is disappointed that i did not disclose the rap.he would not have bought had he known.i feel bad but it's not like the car was crashed and did not disclose.the car was everything i said it was.she ran and looked perfect. what do you all think....al.

It is a normal function of the LSx engines, they all do it. There is nothing to disclose.

He should have done his own research before going out and buying a car.

Why should you feel bad for someone that has buyers remorse.

You live and you learn. I made a lot of mistakes when I started my car project (vette) and I only have myself to blame for not being more educated on the matter at hand.

If he didn't test drive it first than I feel you definitely should have mentioned it to him since he would have had no way to know about the problem. I would be furious if I was the buyer and that was the case.

Not all LS1's have piston slap, but I agree, on any that are '99 or newer they almost all have it. Some louder than others. My 02 was really bad, embarrassingly bad. While my 97 has none whatsoever.

It's not a problem, it's a characteristic of the LSx tolerances. They all do it. It hurts absolutely nothing and causes no damage.

My 01 rattles pretty good until it is fully warmed up. It's a non-issue.

They all do it, Some worst than others. It is normal. You did nothing wrong. Unless it is really bad where it sounds like a rod knock....

I have an 03 coupe. I bought it with 13,000 miles on it in 05 and it made that noise from day one. I don't know if its a piston rap or what but it sounds like a sewing machine on a cold start up and quiets down as soon as it warms up - maybe within a few minutes. I think its just valvetrain noise.

It was there but not very loud until the header install about two months after I bought the car and then it was more noticable. I think its cool - sounds like its got a cam in it when its cold. Even the exhaust is more choppy. But alas, it all goes away when it warms up.

The car runs great and has over 40k on the clock. Doesn't use any oil and still demands respect.

Hook the guy up to the forum and teach him about SEARCH!

Tell him you will let him return it for a 15% restocking fee.
