I use the solid top year around. I find it lets in less road noise, it's cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter.
I had a C4 and it only had the smoked glass top. Even though it was white, with a white interior, that car was like an oven in the summer, and a bit cool in the winter. My EB 03 C5 only has the painted top, and it is so much cooler in the summer, even though it is a much darker color than the C4. Also, it seems a bit quieter. Maybe that's just because it's a C5, not a C4.
I use the hard top for winter and the smoked glass for summer. It rarely stays on though if its nice out. If it gets ridiculous as far as temp then I put the hard top back on for its insulation ability.
