How much should I use on the exhaust plate? Since I made my own,I don't know how much is usually on the back to secure it to the vehicle.

Were they on the outside edges or in the middle?

mine also had 2 strips vertically. best guestimate was that they are about 1/4 in from each side edge. mine also is holding well. i have seen others, by the way with 4 strips also vertically mounted equa-distant from the sides.

if you use top of the line 3M moudling tape you should be good to go with 2. obviously clean the surface of the car and the plate as best as you can with alcohol before you apply the plate.

They were on the outside, You need to look at the car before you apply the tape, Or better yet put the tape on the car side first because there are some raised spots under there.

You might want to try using industrial strength velcro instead. I did on mine (four pieces of the 2" wide stuff, with each strip about 5" long) and the sumbitch is on there solid as all get out. Best part is you can guarantee that it'll be mounted perfectly, plus have the added benefit of being able to pull it off to clean/buff whenever you want. Just my $.02, though.
