Default Oil temp

Just wondering what is a safe oil temp range for the LS6. I searched for threads on this but couldn't find one. The highest temp I have seen on mine is 208. Thanks

It always seems to hang around the water temp, untill you get into traffic, then it go's up and only drops slowly afer you on the highway for quite awhile.

That drove me nuts on my 88 with the digital guages, so I don't watch it that much on the Z or the new car.

Since GM started useing synthetic oil they saw no need to offer oil coolers, so that is why you don't see them any longer.

On track on hot days I've seen 300F. Pros have told me it's not a problem, but I am concerned not about the synthetic oil, but seals and bushings that could be damaged. I installed a Dewitt radiator over the winter and will soon see how reduced coolant temps are related to oil temp.

On my '02 Z I have a small cooler in front of the steering rack. Is that not an oil cooler?

That small cooler is a power steering cooler. C5 Z06 does not come with one.

If you track the car it is not a bad idea. I put one in and it keeps my temps around 245 on most days. Before it is on its way to 300. I wouldn't trust the engine lasting at 300 on a regular basis. That is supposedly about where the bottom end of the engine will give. The oil cooler is mounted ahead of the condensor.

200-210 is just fine. Don't worry about that at all. You need to get at least above 180 or so to burn off the contaminants in the oil.

If you got the Dewitt with the EOC and are running it then sure. If you got the Dewitt radiator only. Then it won't help your oil temps much. Those temps are a function of engine rpm. Either add an oil cooler or do more laps in a higher gear to let the oil temps come back down.
