The only significant drawback (in my mind) to owning an 01 is oil consumption. I have yet to find an 02-04 to do a side-by-side comparison... so what does 20 HP matter?. My car now has a cam, longtubes, CAI and several other bolt-ons... so the HP difference is moot anyway.

As far as picking one. Read up on the differences. I went with a newer model and got an 03 altough I wanted a white Z06... The 01 have no HUD, oil consumption problems and are lacking 20 HP out of the box. When I was looking I was dead set on a Quick Silver since white was out of the quesion. My previous GTo was QS and I loved the color. But with that said I would've settled for a MY or EB had I found a great deal on one.
Just FYI I would not get a black or red Z. 1 being I had a black Lexus and OMG what a bitch it was to clean and 2 being that I hate red especially already driving around in a Z getting looks from the popo.

when the factory did a in depth study on how fast colors were to select one for their Corvette racing program they picked yellow. It is therefore well known that yellow is the fastest and therefore most desirable color

Silver must accelerate faster than the others or they wouldn't legally be able to call it Quick Silver. Those GM corporate lawyers are pretty strict about stuff like that. I also heard the Red ones blow up and catch fire all the time ...

whatever color vette people own is the color they are going to say is the best color.
My personal fav color is electron blue, i have always loved that color. Yellow also looks pretty wicked on a C5Z
Silver and black are far too common and blah colors on the corvette (granted i HAVE seen a very few good looking QS and black vettes)
Red is just awesome, nuff said.

2) Millenium Yellow
3) Red
4) Speedway White
5) Black
6) Quicksilver
