I have just purchased a 2004 coupe. It is black and has a few swirls in the clear coat. I have been applying a coat wax that is taking out a good portion of the swirls. My question is when you get a light coat of dust on it can I use a good duster on it or will I have trouble with scratching again? Then what kind of car cover should I purchase?
I have a black car as well, and from my experience - the dusters suck big time on black cars. I do a quick detail spray and wipe off with a microfiber towel. As far as covers - The best I've owned that kept the car dry and didn't flap and leave marks, is the Coverking Autobody Armor. It's pricey, but sometimes vendors here will do a group buy and you can save about a hundred bucks.
I have the same car.Black is SOOO hard to keep from getting scratches, seems like i look at it and theres a new one.Having said that, for the most park they are not in the paint and you can get them out with a little elbow grease.I use my duster everytime i take off the cover,i make sure to shake it hard before it hits the car.My duster says the dirtier it is the better, and mines pretty black..............But i dont think it puts scratches in the car.Its all about how you wash the car that put those marks in the clear coat.I do the best i can with that.........I dont wash the car with 2 buckets, but always wash the wheels last, micofiber towel,to dry after leaf blowing dry,but ya know ive come to the fact that they are going to come and go,its part of owning a black car,but i would not want it any other way..........Theres lots of better tips than mine on here good luck And welcome to this great forum......................
I just picked up MeGuiar's ScratchX and is works incredibly well. Every day when I arrive home, I go over my car with a California duster. As Chip mentioned, you shouldn't use it if your car is already dirty, but a light dusting from driving or just sitting for a while is easily removed.
I was just browsing the C5 forum for fun, I have a 1984, and saw your post. Just wanted to let you know about some of the experiences I've had with my CoverCraft HD Weathershield. It's really nice but there are some issues. If there is a high wind it can blow dirt up under the cover and onto the car, that's about the worst, also be sure to use the tie down, it's really easy for them to blow off. I find I'm not driving as much since if the cover gets wet from rain it's hard to take off. Also the Weathershield doesn't have any liner on the inside. It cleans up really easy in a large commercial washer and low heat, use one without a center agitator, I used Simple Green as recommended, also maybe check the dryer temp once it starts running. The Weathershield may not be what you need but I would recommend it for outside storage, it is of the highest quality and one of the nicest things I have ever done for my Vette!

On my Black vette no duster is allowed, they do leave scratches. Detail spray and micro.

I use a Coverking Satin Stretch indoor cover. It fits perfect and it looks sexy "Swirls" in paint are more likely caused by the last owner using a sponge to wash the car instead of something like a microfiber wash mitt. I would strip the wax and remove the swirls using a orbital buffer and some ZPC or a fine cut cleaner. Congrats on your new Coupe
