Hi All your C5 Keyfob guru out there. I am new to this forum and found that there's alot of information on here. My problem is on a 2000 vette, the keyfob does not work. I took it to the dealership and the service advisor tried and tried to synchronized the keyfob and then re-learned the keyfob. After a few tried he told me that I need to purchased new keyfob. As I read the forum more and more people are stated that this keyfob only good for a few years. Could it be that both of my keyfob bad. It got new battery in it which I purchased from Interstate battery, does anyone know if there's anything else I can try before making a purchase of a new keyfob.
My 2000 Keyfob works fine and it still has its original battery. I would either: 1. order a new keyfob from a forum vendor, or 2. Ask your dealer if he will accept a return if the new fob doesn't fix the problem. 3. Find someone near you with a 2000 and borrow their fob and try to sync it to your car. That will tell you if its a fob problem. They can later resync it to their car.
The way the fob works is that theres a receiver on the car that senses a signal from the fob and sends a message via the cars computer to the door lock module. That receiver is shared with the tire pressure sensors. If you are getting readings of tire pressure on the DIC thats good because the receiver is OK.
If you changed both batteries thats another problem isolated. I'd try a relearn procedure myself just to be safe, but if the dealer knows what he's doing and already tried a relearn, it looks like new fobs are the answer.
You can get discounted fobs from one of the Forum parts vendors. I use Bob at Fichtner Chevrolet. Thye often pop up on E Bay. Make sure you get the correct fobs for your year. The 97-00s work at a different frequency.
I had the same problem. I was going to buy a new one when I remembered that one of the guys here on the forum said he fixed his. Apparently sometimes the solder joints come loose. So I checked and sure enough found a loose connection. I just resoldered it and it worked fine. Remembered I had another one that didn't work that I threw in the junk drawer. Dug it out and did a little resolder on that one too, and it worked again. It could be something as simple as that. Wouldn't hurt to check it out!
Sounds like you need a new fob or two. Not so sure I'd hit up ebay if they're known to go bad cause then you have no clue if they work or how old they are and how long they'll last. As suggested pull it apart and check all connections. Could be just that simple.
On a side note is this a problem with all fobs? I have an 03 but they still work. Although I think the battery's are getting weak and need replaced because the reach on them are fairly short and you have to press it multiple times to get them to work if your not really close to the car.
