Default help - trans fluid change problem

Hi guys, I am attempting to change the trans fluid on my 00 mn6.

I drained it no problem but now the issue is with filling it back up.

I put in just under 4 quarts and can not feel any fluid, so i figure i will just add more until it starts to spill out of the fill hole.

Well, I put in another quart and still nothing. what gives, 5 quarts?

if i start the engine of course it pours out, but as soon as i turn it off, it stops.

now i have no idea how much is in the car, and i dont know what to do here... how much should really be added until it starts flowing out?

am i going crazy here?

um.... i have a 22mm sensor that i took out as the fill hole, my drain hole has the 3/8 drive.

the place i am using is on the pass. side, about halfway up, with an electrical connector and 2 metal prongs sticking out in front of the hole.

shoot am i using the wrong hole?

so which side did you drip from, the sensor or the hole onthe driver side?

i just took off that plug on teh driver side and i got a rush of fluid, and its sitting just under the driver side hole now. (which is obviously lower on the tranny than the sensor on the passenger side hole)

i thought the transeses were the same other than gear ratios?

hmmm well, that might make sense, i didnt think there was a difference, but i guess there is. oh well, its sitting at the fill hole mark on the mn6, so i should be good. ill go take it for a spin and see what happens.

I did mine about a month ago, I have the mn6 in my 01. The fill hole I used is on the drivers side just above the sticker, its a 3/8" drive plug and I put in just under 3 quarts.

Well like i said this afternoon i uncorked that fill hole and about 1/2 a quart came out, and I drove it around about 150 miles today and everything seems to be working fine.

I guess I just had the wrong spot... I was reading something for the mn12.

You were filling at the wrong location. The fill plug/hole is on the driver's side as pictured below by Fire 22. That's why you had to add more than normally required - should have been just short of 3 qts. The only manual tranny with the temp sensor in the driver-side fill hole is the M12 in the Z06. You should recheck for the fill hole on the driver's side and fill to the correct level.

so far everything seemed fine, but the new mobil 1 fluid doesnt feel any different than the 70k mile redline i took out.

Not surprising as the manual tranny fluid doesn't reqire changing at all according to the maintenance section of the service manual so, if your tranny was operating smoothly, a fluid change may be hard to notice in terms of feel. Many here do it for peace-of-mind or to try and resolve tranny issues.
