I have done a search but cant find the post on how to tell what rear end you have. I know its the numbers in the glove box and under the rear hatch but cant find the post. Help---thanks
If you have a 6 speed you have the 3.42 (no matter if you have the Z06 or coupe/vert).
If your RPO codes (should be in center console cover or glove box door depending on year model) show a G92 you have the automatice with the performance axle ratio (3.15 rear gears). If you don't show G92 you have the base axle for automatics (2.73 rear gears).
I'm sure someone else will chime in and correct me, but I think you can also do 70 in 3rd gear in the automatic and divide your engine RPM by 1000 to get your axle ratio - will be about 3150 rpm for performance axle and 2700 rpm for base).
It is my understanding that the 3:15 to 1 is the performance rear axle ratio for the automatic transmission.
I wonder if the " G92 " is the rearend for the Z06.
The Z06 is also a 3:42 to 1 ratio,but with hardened inerds. ( Is that a word? )

The G92 and the G90 goes hand-in-hand. There was no special rearend for the Z06 as far as gearing (all 6-speeds had the 3.42 gears regardless of Z06 or coupe/vert). The G92 was only available on the automatic and provided the 3.15 axle ratio.

Post the last 8 digits of your vehicle # and I can look up your gear ration along with the rest of your options.

There was/is special rear end for Z06's in that the internal parts are hardened. ( Called shot- peened, I think )
Yes, you are correct that all manual transmissions have 3:42 rear end gear ratio.

The G92 code indicates you have the optional rear end. G90 indicates it is a 3.15 ratio rear. Several options are like this, trannies for instance. MN6 means you have a 6 speed tranny. The other code, MM6 for coupes/verts and M12 for Z06s indicates what particular 6 speed you have.
