I've had this before and read all the available posts related to it. I added the washers to shim out the motor. and it seemed to work ok. I bought new bumpers. Why does it keep popping up and what can I do now?

 

What do you mean popping up?

What's this about shims and washers? What problem were you trying to fix to begin with?

 

Left headlight stays up. Shut lights off - it goes down and then pops right back up again.

 

Ok, understanding the linkage is the motor continuing to operate while it returns to the up position?

What work was previously done on it? Was this problem happening which is why work was done or for another problem?

 

Does it Attempt to go down again or lock in the "up" position?

 

If you did the TSB fix and replaced the bumpers I'd now be thinking a gear change or motor swap.

 

Light retracts and goes back up. New metal gear was installed two years ago. Motor you think?

Previous work included shimming the motor with washers, new bumpers and the gear change (plastic one was stripped).

 

Mine was just doing the same thing turned over nylon stop bushing in lower part of housing and that fixed it. at first i only saw the white stop on the top but it was the lower one that had the problem.

Does the test lamp illuminate?

6 Connect a test lamp between the headlamps ON input circuit and the ground circuit of connector C1.

2. Disconnect the actuator control module to the headlamp opening door.
3. Using a test lamp, probe between the headlamp OFF input circuit and ground.

That is the Troubleshooting table from the FSM. Excellent one note to keep in mind, the first answer "Go to..." is for a YES answer and the second "Go to...." is for a NO answer.

So picking up at 6 for example, if YES Go to step 11 if NO then Go to step 14. So on and so forth.

This will isolate the electrical problem.

 

That troubleshooting guide looks like it may lead me to an answer. I have to sort through it.

Interesting note- I just replaced my battery and when my old one was weak (low voltage) - the headlight would come up when the lights were on and stay down when the lights were turned off.
